Taxes are theft so no, it's essentially the same as someone pointing a gun to your head and saying "give me your money so that I can help you", and it's even worse when someone points a gun to your head and says "give me your money, so that we can help those people over there" which is usually what it escalates too, and the money actually going where it's intended is highly doubtful.

If the tax was voluntary, like, if you weren't forced to pay it but could if you wanted to, then there are many wiser choices out there if you want some kind of social benefits, like insurance or not being a retarded low time-preference commie and saving your money for a rainy day.

Ayn rand accepted social security (less than she paid in though), so I suppose her answer was "yes".

With government usually spending whatever they take in taxes (destroying the original concept of social security and other "insurance" programs) and then borrowing on the backs of children and the unborn (future earnings) though, it becomes a bit more complicated. In one sense you are simply taking back what was stolen from you, but in another you are being a victim of theft and then stealing from future generations with debt financing.

I prefer the purist approach of avoiding gov't services as much as possible, being able to say that I am not promoting the use of violence against children/unborn with debt financing makes it worthwhile except perhaps in extreme circumstances IMO.
