 No.68670

Roger Ver and Oliver Janssens are planning on spending a few hundred million dollars to buy land from a government and build a libertarian utopia.

Are we going to see Ancapistan in our lifetime? Any of you planning on going off it looks like it might be successful?

 No.68676

I'm glad to see efforts of any sort continuing. An ungoverned enclave that gets off the floor is a wealth generation engine. Just as poor neighbors make poor neighbors, we can be wealthier because other places are wealthier.

 No.68684

Godspeed. I doubt it will get off the ground, but it's nice to see people try.

 No.68709

Knowing Roger, he seems to know what he's doing, especially with over 100 million dollars his team has. And that's not to mention the fact he's already in talks with interested countries near the US, Europe and Asia. This certainly beats Liberland and Seasteading in terms of time and doesn't seem willing to compromise liberty for attention and approval.

I have a feeling this'll be started in Japan or Southeast Asia. Europe is starting to boil while the US dollar might hyperinflate soon. If this does get started near the former two, that would be perfect for me. I would only be one flight away from true freedom I never thought I'd live in my lifetime. And best of all, it could begin in two years, or at best, next year.

No more politics, no more bickering, no more initiatory violence, just a group of free people respecting each other's self-ownership while living fulfilling lives. If this does get off the ground and actually deliver on its promises, I'll never be more happy in my life.

It's too good to happen. Just thinking about the rest of the world continuing the shit flinging tradition and descending into further plunder and conflict makes me all cozy.

We need intellectual diversity. Trapping everything under the tumorous growth of the state has NEVER worked out well in the long run. European citystates and free cities contributed immensely to history, and they were not bastions of government power in those ages. Quite the inverse. They were where the foot of government fell most lightly.

What worked before can work again if we can only break away from the overwhelming arrogance of those who would trap us in the eternal misery of political contest. Men should not burn their lives to live at the expense of others in political systems. We should seek a higher potential. Bring value to yourself and others through creative engagement with the market.

Reminds me of those free economic zones in Peru.

 No.68767

>>68766

Weren't they in Honduras, or did Peru do a similar experiment? Wish they'd do that in Germany, for a change.

 No.68775

>>68767

But, anon,we can't let the Germans know that politics is a scam. The people wouldn't be able to waste most of their time, energy and money on mass movements that never solve anything. How would the politicians get paid if they can't make everyone hate each other?

 No.68833

Purchased sovereignty like this has a much better chance of working than /pol/'s quixotic meme project.

Which part of Africa are they pretending to colonize now?

 No.68859

>>68767

I think it was Peru. I remember on a thread here a while back a link was posted showing an article of some leftist rag bitching about these economic zones and blaming it and libertarianism for crime in Peru.

 No.68861

Could a project like this get set up for medical tourism? It's an already-valuable service to offer that may have breakaway potential in an overregulated world.

 No.68867

It would be a haven not only for medical tourism, but also every other industry. I'm especially interested in what kinds of movies, video games, and series can be produced there once it's open; Assuming they follow through and recognize Intellectual Monopoly as the corporatist trash it is.

 No.68871

>>68867

Why would the local market be so tempting as to make that worthwhile? Knockoff IPs will not produce exportable properties. Your optimism may be unwarranted on economic grounds.

 No.68888

>>68670

im keeping my fingers crossed

 No.68898

>>68871

>Why would the local market be so tempting as to make that worthwhile?

Because it's a free market. And in any free market, transactions are done for mutual benefit, otherwise neither party would initiate the transaction. If however, you introduce violence, especially through corporatist regulations, one party benefits, while the other does not. This lack of coercion will incentivise competition in all industries, leading to high-quality goods and services.

>Knockoff IPs will not produce exportable properties. Your optimism may be unwarranted on economic grounds.

It's actually realism warranted on economic grounds. IP is just a euphemism for protectionist monopolies lobbied for by big business. If IP was consistent with natural rights, then it should also apply to recipes, furniture design, architecture, fashion, tailorship, and every other creative industry. But I'm sure you wouldn't be in favor of that, would you? Rule of thumb, if you don't think a law would work for one industry, don't advocate that same law for other industries.

Now they're talking about Good Hope, South Africa while drawing conclusions that they are somehow resurrecting Rhodesia, ignoring the fact that the Rhodesian border is 500 miles away from good hope.

 No.68907

>>68905

As nice as it would be to helicopter Mugabe and his thugs, Good Hope would be more of a spiritual successor.

 No.68909

>>68709

Anon, just report back to here in 10+ years after you been there.

I have a suspicion that this land is just going to be another tax haven to the global corporates, is there any venture capitalists pouring money into this?

I'm thinking they'll buy up land around really struggling countries that would sell their land for the lowest bitter. So middle africa or south east asia or south America.

A few private cities already exist. By the time I retire there will be options to choose from. This one in particular doesn't have to meet expectations.

 No.69152

He's saying that you wouldn't be able to sell it in other countries, which is where the money is. If your can only sell it in this tiny free Society then you won't make enough money.

I hate to break it to you, but like Jeff Berwick, Roger is just another fraud who believes in the violence of the state when it suits him. In his mind, it's patents for me, not for thee. Keep in mind, this post was three months ago, and who's to say this "free society" of his won't include intellectual property?

I stopped giving a shit about these kinds of projects long ago. At first I saw them as a viable alternative to the mass movements, which accomplished very little. But then, I saw them sell out, renege their promises and fuck over the people whose principles they originally stood for.

The only viable path I see to a truly free society is to stop giving a shit what the tyrants want, organize all the armed libertarians and liberate a country from some fragile state. But most libertarians are too domesticated to take up arms, so they willingly accept their own subjugation. They may not agree with statists, but they don't seem to pose any kind of a threat to government when their tactics are less use logos against pathos.
