A different interpretation is that the cleverest countries have more time to worry about philosophical and theological matters instead of what to eat from day-to-day (especially since IQ is tied to economic prosperity and economic prosperity is tied to free time) while the "less clever" countries have to have strong community bonds in order to get by which makes religion a natural gather point since it's easier to talk about god once a week and discuss problems in the community after Divine Liturgy than to go to a boring town hall meeting.

I've never actually overdosed on weed, even when I took about 50mg of edibles one time in the course of an hour because my friend didn't tell me the strength of his chocolate until I was halfway through nibbling on the bar.
