I have lived on almost every latitude for at least two years, and I can say the best latitude is:

Now on this latitude, whatever it is because I'm not checking, you have to be within a band of about 100-250km away from an ocean or sea.

Winters are cold, summers are hot, but neither is so cold or so hot that it doesn't have the traditional wonders and genuine good times of the seasonal extremes.

Cold is harder to bear when you're unprepared for it, but heat is harder to manage comfortably overall - if you have a warm house and clothes, as well as heating you can get real comfy, especially with a fireplace or at least a heater, while just water will keep you alive when it's hot but clothes can only help you so much against hot air and AC will either make it all very chilly and the air just feels unpleasant. If you've got a house with a fire burning inside then winter would be more comfy but if you live in a shitty apartment that wind blows through then sitting under a tree outside in summer would be more pleasant than trying to maintain temperature and humidity in a shitty dump.

Basement gun making is much more common in those Asian shitholes like the Philippines. In Brazil, the most you'll get is a prisoner who made a shitty improvised firearm that doesn't shoot bullets. Most of the weapons in Brazil come from close proximity countries, like Paraguay. The majority of criminals will have some sort of 9mm pistol or a revolver with 5-6 bullet capacity, being the .38 the most common caliber. People who hunt around here use .22, .16 and the likes. 7.62 and 5.56 are military grade in here and only criminals can access it. The military on my state commonly uses FALs, while it's not uncommon for them to use a M16. Cops most commonly will use a 9mm taurus or a revolver, being this one normally a personal weapon not assigned by the government, which he can use on duty but he should give priority to the assigned weapon (which is not as reliable and in certain places you need to count your used bullets and sign a form about that. It's not uncommon for a cop to have only 9 bullets or something like that for the assigned weapons, and some even steal some from the shooting practice for more guarantee in a combative situation. Taurus weapons that are sold on the exterior are very good, but the ones used in Brazil often present malfunctions). In certain places, the government imports Glocks for the cop's use, being the most recent model I remember being imported the Glock 21.

Civilians can also have guns, and a wide variety of that, but not nearly like an american. But it's a very restricted and monitored process. The fact that the government took our guns has to do with a coup done by entrepreneurs that own the country against poor people, taking away all their rights, basically. But that is soon to change.
