Can anyone identify these? They were in the Rhine between Worms and Mainz. (b) has what looks like a piece of stripper clip rusted to its base.

Take a calliper and measure their calibre and the lenght of the case. But I can tell you already that k is 8mm Lebel. and the rest seem to be 7.92 Mauser. Expect for l of course.

>>616447

Although a is rimmed, so that can't be Mauser. I can imagine that it's .303 British, although I'm not sure how would that end up in this lot. Did you find them in the same place, or is this the result of collecting them over time?

bcfef3  No.616449

A. .303 British, headstamp is for certain

B. 8mm Mauser

C. 8mm Mauser

D. 8mm Mauser

E. 8mm Mauser

F. 8mm Mauser

G. 8mm Mauser most certainly due to the headstamp

H. First thought was 8mm Mauser but the case looks a bit too straight, can you clean the headstamp off for us?

I. Best guess is 7.5x55 French due to the primer ring

J. 6.5 Carcano what the fuck is that doing there?

K. 8x50R Lebel

L. Projectile from .50 BMG

you're welcome

Primers are still intact. Be careful with them and don't use any acids to clean the rust off. The acid might set off the primer if it hasn't rotted away completely, and while primers aren't too bad, you don't want metal splinters in your fingers.

These look remarkably well preserved, considering that they have been there for >70 years. Use a rough piece of cloth to get the rust off as well as you can. Maybe try silverware polish.

Stop posting KC memes.

It hurts too much to remember.

That's terrific, thanks!

I don't have the ammo myself, but the headstamp of (H) reads:

12:00: P442

3:00: IV11 (not sure about his one)

6:00: 45

9:00: 40

>J. 6.5 Carcano what the fuck is that doing there?

Maybe there was a shooter in Germany in addition to the one on the grassy knoll LOL. The Rhine has been used for shipping for thousands of years; you can literally find anything from Celtic arrowheads to modern hunting rounds.

Could it be 6.5 Mannlicher?

bcfef3  No.616842

>>616655

It may be a trick of the camera then because the headstamp is consistent with 8mm Mauser. P442 is the manufacturer code for Zieh-und Stanswerk G.m.b.H., Werk Schleusingen/Thüringen, Germany. If I am interpreting it correctly I believe it would be 1940 manufacture, lot number 45, and the IV11 would be the steel manufacturers code. Is the casing magnetic as this interpretation would mean that it is brass plated steel.

If its 6.5 its probably from one of the guns the Wehrmacht nabbed from the Italians or Greeks and threw at the volksstrum.

000000  No.617397

>>616842

That particular case is magnetic, as are several of the others and most of the bullets. Basically, anything with visible rust in the picture has some steel that has rusted and leaked through the brass.

>>616877

The local guy told me that there used to be an ammo dump in the area, so it could be that. That would explain why so many different kinds of round were in one place.

Late war ammo dumps tend to have neato things buried. Makes me wonder if it was one of the many that were pillaged by my great grandfather.

The local guy claims to have gone fishing with leftover stick grenades as a kid. I always figured it was bullshit but maybe he was right.

What happened to Krautchan? GDPR? I'm not saying Germans aren't the worst people on the internet, but I did have one or two good conversations there.
