Depends on how you do it/how well you do it. There will always be an element of chance, as your target(s) could be armed/trained/ready for you to strike (or someone else). It would be tough if you went after gangs of other similar groups, you would need a well thought out plan to take them out.

You could always do what Saint Timothy did to the glow-in-the-darks.

Professional hitmen are some of the most difficult individuals to catch. They often have military/special forces experience and extensive knowledge on forensics. If you were to approach vigilante justice like a professional assassin chances are you could get away with it for quite some time, if not indefinitely.

But is is very difficult to get to the level of a professional assassin. Chances are you would end up more like a serial killer.
