There's no discharge in the war!

Does having a spring instead of a normal shaft on a mace offer any benefits? Does it allow you to hit harder? Like you can flick your wrist just right when swinging it so the head springs into the target?

You ever see someone do a drum roll?

Imagine that but with a mace on someones head.

I doubt a bunch of little taps would do much. I was thinking swing hard at the head and when the mace is about 6-8 inches from the head you'd flick your wrist and whip them with it.

But why not just have a regular mace and swing hard at the head and use the momentum you already have to bash their skull in?

Idk. I'm trying to figure out why spring maces were a thing. Maybe because it's pretty much impossible to break a spring

A spring adds no advantage.

The only this the spring does is expand when you swing the mace, which means that you have to swing it harder to get it to the same speed, since you are using some of the force you would otherwise use to accelerate the mace to expand the spring now.

However springs were an early method to produce a tube-like grip, which is significantly lighter than a full metal grip.

maybe the spring is capable of going around stuff like shields and blocking appendages similar to a flail?

Reduced back shock. When you hit something too hard to yield (not meat) you can have shock travel down a rigid handle and wreck your hand. A spring would reduce that.

>Does it allow you to hit harder?

If anything it reduces hitting power and maneuverability.

Blackjacks aren't designed to kill, you may be misinterpreting the "effect" they're designed to be effective for.

Their shape and fine lead dust is designed to spread out the impact, so it doesn't break skin or bones. It just transfers a shockwave that causes pain, or if on the head an instant concussion which makes prisoners easy to handle.

Get a ball peen hammer, use the rounded end. Much smaller point of contact so much more force at that point.

please don't kill anyone without wiping your browser history first.

I think its because as you swing the mace the spring would stretch out, giving you more reach.
