No one who speaks in favor of the 6.5 says the ~.300 calibers are obsolete. They provide better performance out of shorter barrels and at shorter ranges, for a weight cost. Besides it's really tough to say any caliber is "obsolete" so long as there's even one factory churning it out.

Only insecure manbabies would attack the 6.5 because of some imaginary attack on their investment.

Context is important, because if there is no limit on weight and recoil, then a 120mm cannon beats both 6.5mm and 7.62mm firearms.

For a given size game, lighter and smaller rifle, and similar distances within 500 yards, the 7mm-08 is overall the better cartridge. If I were hunting in Africa with a boltgun for large and powerful game, I would pick the .300. For rusa and mule deer, or running hog, why carry the extra weight?
