In hunting and sniping, of course not. They're still dependable for those purposes. For any sort of average military grunt, pretty much. You're better off giving them an assault rifle instead.

As a service rifle they were obsolete by the 1930's.

As a marksman's / precision rifle, they're arguably obsolescent, because there's nothing they can do that a properly built self loader can't.

As a sporting arm? Obviously not, but considering people still hunt with double rifles, falling blocks, and muzzle loaders, does it really matter?

nice, well researched conclusion considering everyone above a DRM role uses a chassis bolt action these days. more repeatable bolt lockup, more sturdy action, with the user having control over recoil and reloading for followthrough and observation. it's better for long and extreme range, SASS fill a different role.

No the AWM is bolt action and if counterstrike has taught me anything its that you will die =if a bullet from the AWM hits your toe.

You'd be hard pressed to find a modern bolt action rifle that isn't largely patterned after the Mauser action.
