I just got an optic mount for my mosin, it's a locally produced mount that goes on the rear sight and does not alter the rifle in any way(sadly weaver style spacing on the rail but who cares). I want to put some kind of optic on it. I was originally just going to buy a 20$ red dot for memes but I am starting to like the idea of actually using my highly accurate ex-sniper nugget as a long distance rifle. Ive been looking at long eye relief scopes but they all seem identical. Does anyone have suggestions on optics to consider for a mosin(really any scout style rifle tbh).

also what is that bag thing that you put on your stock to raise your cheek weld called? I'm assuming Im going to need to get one regardless of how low i can get my rings.

pic related its my nug

I got a UTG scout optic mount but I'm scared of drilling into the barrel to mount it.

Both the rifle and the mount are sitting in my safe…

It's called a cheek rest, or a comb raiser.

I'm thinking of getting a scout type scope for my mauser, too. Maybe Vortex Crossfire.

>>533963

I actually had one for cheep hunting, put it on my carbine, whose recoil proceeded to knock my scope about so hard it couldn't hold a zero for more than 5 rounds. pretty gay

>>533972

no one should be buying anything like that until they actually know how high they need it to be, most of that shit doesn't have a way to tighten down anyhow. if you aren't scared of what people think, you just tape foam or rubber or leather onto it until you find the amount you need.

>optic on non pu mosin

>mosin after market

You just entered a world of fuck. Most aftermarket for the mosin is shitty airsoft tier crap trying to make an ancient rifle tacticool that was a big seller for when the mosin was actually worth it's true value and ammo for it could be bought for less than price of rape in africa. Don't waste money on useless upgrades for that rifle and just have fun with it as is. Save that money for something that actually can use an optic. If you want a good bolt gun try a mossberg MVP they have them in .223 and .308 the best part is that it uses common ar15 or ar308 mags so you won't need to buy a shitty scout scope that is itself a shitty expensive nigger rigging attempt to use stripper clips and scopes because apparently 5 round mags weigh so much. fuck Jeff coopers safari gun bullshit the only good thing is carbine length barrels

>i use iron sights to shoot 500m away

Ask me how I know you're noguns.

>>533978

The UTG scope mount on a mosin is solid, has two rails holding it in, two screws, and a pin. Best part it's only $11 and the scope for me was an extra $30. Now just to put them together…

ae53f7 No.534042

>>534026

You sound like this is your first gun. For the most part UTG is an airsoft brand that has a few things that could be used by real guns, mainly simple cheap shit such as fore grips and simple pic rails that would be used to slap a flashlight on a shotgun until the owner finds something better. Second a $30 dollar scope is going to eat shit soon after mounting it onto a gun that spits out anything larger than 22lr. Some exceptions exist such as $100 fake ACOGs but those will die from either dropping it or burning through a bulk pack of ammo. I'm not saying you need to spend over $1k for a good optic but a $30 tasco from walmart is just going to be a waste on anything that isn't a 22lr.

d8948f No.534045

>>534042

It's not a tesco, it's a Chink copy of a Japanese military scope. It's cheap because I'm not paying the idiot tax by going to walmart.

As for the UTG, it's the most solid rail mount for a Mosin, not counting welding it down. It's decent.

I like the scout setup, otherwise I'm not much of a fan of scopes if there is any chance of having to shoot at anything moving that isn't a long ways off

I bought an aluminum Pic rail for my M44, but i'm not at all satisfied with the tolerance. The mount windage moves two to three degrees with no hardware attacked, and I can't imagine the set screws being very reliable. It would be fine with a tight fit, but I think you'll need a machinist to do that for you.

Aim Sports sells a LER 2-7x42mm, as does Leupold at a much higher quality.

The 91/30 has a 14mm? rail under the sight, but I'd really rather pin something on. Desoldering my sight with a blowtorch just doesn't sit right in my gut.

The Brass Stacker option is a solid retail mount for all mosins. A little pricy, but that's to be expected https://brassstacker.com/mosin-nagant/m9130-m9159-m38-m44-m53-t53-universal-fit-anchor-point-see-thru-scout-scope-mount.html. I'd buy one if it didn't sit so high off the bore.

If you do take yours out for long range practice, note the 147gr shoot faster than the sight is calibrated for. The 400m setting gives a center hold at 600yd .

>>533972

Brass Stacker has a Mauser mount too, leaves the irons unmolested.

Never tried one like that, I'd bet it works good if it's nice and stiff. Personally, I prefer things that won't catch dirt and grass or snag on things and don't have velcro. Pretty sure you're going to outshoot me with it though, so whatever works.

What's the deal with murricans being unable to hit anything beyond 50 yards without glass?

8300a5 No.534613

So here are the only real options I have found for a scout style optic:

LEUPOLD VX-2 1.5-4x28 IER

6-6.9" of eye relief 245$ ASIN: B013XSD502 probably the highest quality optic in this list but only 6 inches of ER may not be enough

Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32

9.45" of ER 149$ ASIN: B01AWB3JPE

vortex makes v good optics

Hi-Lux Long Eye Relief 2-7X32

8-13" of ER 148$ ASIN: B00BJXM0KK

was told by the guy who makes the mount that this optic is great and takes a beating, but he was also selling them

Bushnell Trophy Scout Rifle 2-7 x 36mm

8" of ER 158$ ASIN: B01BNSHQQ8

seems p good

all the other long eye relief scopes ive found are made by weird manufacturers or are just cheap cheap garbage I am sure there are some crazy expensive custom optics that you could get but there is no point in that lol.

I need to do some measurements to see how much eye relief I NEED for a mosin specifically.

ofc I could always just buy a cheepo red dot and that will be fun too, hell I could get one of those pic rail ring mounts and use it to put a red dot on top of my optic. if anyone else knows other scout optics that are not listed post them.
