My understanding, is that the 300 blackout exists because folks were tired of the shortcomings of the poodleshooter.
And who was tired of its performance? Folks getting shot at with 7.62 russian. So the 300 memeout is an AR feed compatible 7.62 russian.
Handloading the 7.62x39 is a tiny bit complicated because the factory fresh rounds can be had for twenty cents a round shipped, even today. But the platform can put up with a wide variety of loads, so shove a 145gr ballistic tip boat tail, and load it hot! (that's my plan, anyway) Or load 90gr flatnoses with just enough powder to reach the 50yd target, to teach yourself to stop flinching, using a real rifle round!
Remember though that AK barrels are expecting .310 projectiles, and using the more common .308 projectiles might sacrifice accuracy. I bet there's an "easy" solution to that, though. Toss the .308 projectiles into a tub of powder for powder-coating, using tweezers transfer them to your toaster oven and bake the powder on, then squeeze them down with a sizing die (commonly used for hardcast bullets). As a side benefit, your bullets could all be pumpkin orange, or zombie green!
Oh man I'm excited about AKs! Can you tell!?!
