There's no discharge in the war!

Is it possible to create a completely modular gun?

Like, first it's a Pistol, then you change some parts and it's a Submachine Gun, the you change some other parts and it turns into a Rifle, then again and it's now a Shotgun.

Pic not related.

After a certain point it's far more practical to have separate firearms.

7.62 tokarev was used in pistols, submachine guns, and light machine guns. I'm sure an assault rifle of it can be made.

9951b9 No.525489

Why not one better, a gun that can go between all those things without changing parts? Theoretically I imagine you could get a floating chamber working for a high pressure cartridge, and you could just use progressively longer straight walled cartridges with heavier bullets and higher powder charges. The trickiest things would be having one recoil and operating system able to run massively different pressure curves, and magazines capable of running various cartridge lengths. I'm thinking you'd need at least .50 if not .60 cal to have an appreciable shotgun round No, 410 is not.

For the operation an adjustable gas system would be a necessity, then perhaps multiple recoil springs with the ability to disconnect them depending on whether you're running the pistol ammo or something hotter.

By the time you've put in the work to build a fully modular firearm, you've basically created a modular firearm construction system, which I think would be much more useful. Some weapons are closer to that concept already, like the AR, but if you create a system of interchangeable mounting interfaces, you've basically made gun lego. I'm reminded of those demonstrator models from the old black and white army instructional videos. It doesn't take much imagination to see that attaching a sliding handle with a camming block to a bolt-action rifle would make it pump-action. Remove the pump handle and connect it to a gas port in the barrel and you're looking at a semi-auto. Be able to swap out mechanisms to alternate between striker-fired and hammer-fired, so you can experience the differences. Extending concepts like that could make for a fun and educational gunsmithing hobby kit that walks you through firearms technology incrementally, and allows you to build a variety of firearms for a variety of purposes. They'll probably have extra bulk and be less reliable than a purpose-built gun, but think of how satisfying it would be.

Is it possible to create a completely multirole aircraft?

Like, first it's an interceptor, then you change some payload and it's CAS, then you change some other systems and it turns into EWAR, then again and now it's reconnaissance.

The gun is just a platform for the ammunition. Sure, you can make one that can eat different kind of foods, but you have to either design the weapon for a few existing cartridges, and develop some new ones that are compatible with the weapon, or design both new guns and new ammo.

>make gigantic nuclear-powered atmospheric cruiser

>armour it up like a battleship

>put hundreds of tons of various ordnance on it

>let it rip

I'm positively sure it would have been cheaper than the F-35.

In the prop age, before missiles, it actually was.

Today? The closest is something like F-15 with it's C and E variants, or the flankers with dedicated Su-35 and Su-34 offshoots.

de4010 No.525545

they already did. its called the AR 15.

It was mostly meant to be a parody of the OP, but now that you point it out it was possible with props. Like the Mosquito.

The AC-130 series is much, much cheaper than that shit show so yes

>I'm positively sure it would have been cheaper than the F-35.

Come on, if you wanted it to be more expensive than the F-35 (including operating costs) then you'd need to build it out of a gold/platinum alloy developed especially for it, fuel the engines with the 100 year old whiskey, and hire A-list actors for every crewman and ground crew role.

Shit, most of the products of /k/ concept threads would be cheaper and a lot more practical.

At that rate, you'll only be left with just an universal pistol grip.

>>525578

Well, a very quick google search shows that the program costs 1,45 trillion dollars. With that much money I'm pretty sure you could develop that one bullpup T2 one strelok proposed some time ago and build enough of them to supply the Outer Heaven style nation of /k/. Complete with rifle grenades and complimentary HEAB Dragon Dildo Launcher.

I think at one point I calculated that we could become a space faring civilization with most of humanity living off-planet for 1.45 trillion dollars.

But there is already a bullpup T2.

Oops. Well, let's go with a modernized Stoner 63 with a bullpup variant, MSBS style. Also a fleet of Wiesels, just because.

You could probably replace Americas stock of Abrams MBTs with modernised P.1000 Ratte variants for that cost.

nay
