Personally when I see any sort of camo and immediately think fudd or mall ninja. However that leaves me at a tacticool level which can't even oper8. What gear is /k/ enough to perform yet subtle enough not to scream that you're an autist when out and about? Everything from hats, shirts, pants, and boots to backpacks and other bags. I go for a modern cowboy look:

>Plain, solid-color baseball cap

>Bandana worn around the neck

>steel-toe caterpillar work boots

It's not really something I had in mind as a fashion statement so much as it is something I came up with for the sake of practicality as the shirt and boots are compulsory to wear as part of my uniform and the hat and bandana are things I added on recently for utility.

As the resident T E R R O R W A V E poster, I recommend a few things;

>limit the milsurp gear to 1-2 items max

The more you have on, the more tryhard and awful you look. However, one single piece of milsurp (such as pic related, gold berezka trousers and leather jacket) can add really nice, eye catching, and conversation starting accents to a look.

>Repping patches

/k/ churns out some dank as fuck patches, and a lot of us like to wear them. Combat shirts are ill advised unless you can get your hands on one of those T-Shirts with the arm-pockets and velcro on them. Even those are iffy. Hats, bags, or softshells are generally the best options for the moment.

-Don't wear the gigantic ones that are like 4x4"

-Don't wear out anything that you wouldn't fight to keep if you heard "RRIIIP" and someone took off with it from your bag.

-I'd recommend not wearing things that obviously show off your power level, obscure stuff generally tends to catch a lot of good attention (such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. patches) while /pol/ patches will gain some glares and whispering.

>Boots

Combat boots are now, hands down, my go-to shoe. I don't like wearing anything else. I've replaced the soles in Ivan's Austrian Paratrooper boots, and I have a pair of jungle boots. Jungle boots are my slip-on, no fuss kind of shoe that I'll throw on just to take out the trash or dig ditches with. The leather combats, when polished, taken care of, and laced properly, make excellent accents to an ordinary look on their own.

>strelok, what don't you recommend?

- current issue camo

- camo pants and shirt/jacket

- Gorka 1 overalls unless worn with leather jackets

- tacticool shit

follow my advice and you'll be /fa//k/ in no-time.

What soles do you recommend for the para boots? I've got a pair myself and even after having "broken them in" over 2 months it crushes the toes on my left foot. Right boot works just fine. Also have noticed that my heels and the balls of my feet tend to get really sore after 6-8 hours of walking around; is that a sole problem or something else?

2c9c9c No.503159

>>503108

I honestly wore them with the stock leather soles mine came with for the break in period, and I think the foot fatigue is kinda normal. I'll usually wear them to work where I'm standing typically 8-11hrs out of the day. I only replaced the soles because I was tired of my boots squeaking. I just used some Dr. Scholls inserts for my specific foot and I typically experience less foot fatigue. As for the toe crunch I think it might just be the way you rest your weight, because that happens to me too. It's gotten me into the habit of standing at an "at ease"/"parade rest" position where I'm equally distributing my weight.

>>503063

If your uni has a strict dress code, try and wear things that would fall into it, even if it's only at first glance; example being leather combats worn bloused under the legs of your trousers. Another thing being like coats that don't jump out immediately as being milsurp, like Gorka 1, Bundeswehr moleskin coats, or a Wehrmacht field shirt without the unit patches.

If you're at a uni without a strict dress code and are just afraid of being ostracized; experiment. If you're afraid of wearing camo take my above advice. If not, just wear obscure stuff that people wouldn't immediately connect to milsurp. I like wearing various field shirts. My best friend likes 5.11 stuff. Either way works.

>Anon, what the fuck do you have in your pockets? Lol.

>Open pockets

>Dump about half a liter of water from my shorts

The best part was, they were completely dry in about 30 minutes too. I have a pocket for my knife, a pocket for my phone, cargo pockets for keys and shit, the slashed ass pockets are easy to get into but still hold your stuff securely. Nice, high waisted fit so you don't have to feel like a nigger walking around with your pants around your ass. I've adopted BDU pants for the sole reason of the waist height. I've yet to find a retailer for dad jeans and my 505's still sit a little low for my comfort.

Actually got some compliments for wearing my fleck coat at uni. I'd pretty frequently wear either that, alpenflage trousers, a tigerstripe field jacket, or a BW commando sweater. BW winter hat, Czech Uszanka, and Austrian ski cap got a lot of use in the winter, along with a Czech OD parka.

Jeans/Poly Pro pants, with a wilderness tactical instructor belt.

Either boots or the nice trail running shoes with padded soles.

Smart wool socks.

T shirt.

Hoodie with chest pockets, preferably a zip up because that makes routing or tucking stray cables under it easier.

A nice T- shirt.

Ball cap if sunny.

Large, durable headphones, plugged into a phone or "music player".

The belt can and does mount pouches and holsters nicely, a good hoodie will cover enough it's not immediately obviously tactical.

if you need soft armor, it can usually fit under the hoodie and the zip up makes it easy.

If you need hard armor, steel fits under the hoodie, and SAPI can go on the outside.

Chest rigs still look minimalist if they're on the outside of your hoodie.

If it's raining, you can either add a rain layer or just replace your sweatshirt.

It's adaptable, blends in perfectly, and is usually comfortable.

You can completely control how tacticool or not it looks by tweaking the brands and colors of each item you choose.

Waterproof convertible cargo pants, cargo vests made for fishing/hunting, hiking boots, hiking-style backpacks (with or without frames)… campers/hunters/fisherman have plenty of gear that could easily be useful in any sort of combat situation or for "operating," but rather than looking like douchebags, they just kinda look like they just got back from a camping trip.

I've seen you average white high class hippie chick with ALICE medium backpacks, oaxacos with six color desert trousers, old men wearing Mexican Marine Desert camo caps and dudes using Belleville or Wellco boots. ACU trousers are extremely common.

But that's only here. Down there at the south, to wear real camo (and not some Mickey Mouse pseudo camo short pants by GAP) is almost a death wish.

I got issued one of these when I was in military school and I really like them. Mine has stayed fuzzy after 7 years. The velcro fell off a 2-3 years back which makes it a bit more subtle. Its not windproof, but it's good for moderate cold on calm days. The fact that it breathes makes it a good motorcycle jacket.

c63970 No.515134

>>515128

>So is just about every outdoor/tactical gear company (like BLACKHAWK!!!!!) have a contract?

Basically yes, because capitalism and the military doesn't really work good together despite what pop culture wants to tell you.

The military has periods where it needs almost instantly a huge number of gear and equipment and then they have a really long dry period where they buy very little except a few things as replacement for broken stuff.

This is terrible for any company that needs a constant customer and income to exist, so almost all of these outdoor/tactical gear companies have a on and off relationship with the military. That is if they don't go broke once the military reduced the stuff they buy from them.

The military needs something, they produce a number of batches for them and then they return to the civilian market, when now the military needs more stuff and they can't produce more or the stuff isn't currently in production anymore by that company, the military will look for another company to fill that gap.

This is the number one reason why armies become such a money drain on their countries and why corruption is so common.

It is hard to say. When I was there, the jacket was issued through the school, high school cadets got their ACU's through the JROTC department and college cadets got them through the ROTC department (at least until the sequester when both went broke and everything came from the school). I know for a fact that with JROTC they issued out at least 10 different brands of ACUs and boots (one year I had mil-surp ACUs another year I had Propper). I believe that with active duty guys they can wear whatever brand they want as long as it is made to an approved spec.

What boots do you advice to buy?

I wanted boots, but I made a terrible mistake, that is to buy logger boots.

Seriously, the high heel stops you from running… What a pain.

Morover, I bought them in black, and seriously, I should have bought them in like brown, because from my point of view, especially in college, it looks too agressive with the high heel.

What boots do you recommend to buy? I can't wear any combat shoes in urban env. Just good boots.

Moreover, I don't think that you should use steel toes in combat situation. The steel seems to be important if you're a worker, but not if you need to move a lot.

anybody know of some good outdoorsman pants that have a form of knee padding? I do a lot of kneeling but I want the pants to also be lightweight for running and such.

But I don't want to wear kneepads, just pants that have a little bit of extra padding on the knees.

Look for some actual workwear trousers that're meant for builders, carpenters, and the like. They often have pockets in front of the knee specifically meant for knee-pads. If you only want a little bit of padding, I've heard that cutting out a section of yoga mat works well.

Fuck it, wear what you like and if that makes teenage girls at the mall mock you so be it. You're living your life, as you see fit, it doesn't matter if they won't take you to the sock hop because your "kicks" aren't swag enough. Go full camo and full fudd all the time and tell everyone else to fuck off.

df9419 No.530430

>>530397

You are missing half the point. By being overtly fudd or mall ninja you draw attention to yourself as a threat. The idea is to have apparel that is aesthetic and functional without broadcasting that you are carrying or someone who should be eliminated first in the event of a mass shooting. Sure if you live in the boonies this doesn't matter but if you live in or around cities then you will stick out like a sore thumb if you go out geared up.

Listen to the Kraut, we know what's up in that regard. Anything military is heavily suspicious over here, so there's little room to enjoy your milsurp enthusiasm without being looked at weirdly. If there was any more serious dimension to it, you can easily imagine how well you would stick out.

That differs given where you live ofc, but the basic line remains the same: take your stuff, go outside and wear it. Check how people react to you, approach some people (I know you can, just believe in yourself, anon) and see how they react. Go buy some stuff in stores and just observe. Then do the same thing with a nice wardrobe you bought in civilian stores.

My guess is that people treat you much better wearing regular clothing (obviously) since they have no reference for milsurp and tacticool shit besides what the media planted in their heads, which isn't good stuff by any means. If you met another /k/omrade, you'd probably break the ice very quickly and have a great time, but regular folks? Not so much.

Just having to explain why you are wearing something and this constant tension in them, clearly being uncomfortable with whatever they associate with your clothing, is a huge disadvantage. It's like a clowns costume that makes people afraid, you know.

Sure, milsurp is great stuff, it's cheap, it's sturdy and has a "nostalgic" flair to it… for US. Not for other people. And that's only the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is that you're some tryhard online-operator that wants to show off, something people actually being what you supposedly want to be never do.

If you play airsoft, work outdoors or whatever, wear that shit. But as long as there's far more people around you than trees, drop the tacticool shit and get some regular clothing, for which there are plenty of good manufacturers out there as well. It's one thing not to be seen, it's another not to be recognized and people read way too much into people liking guns and milsurp nowadays.
