>>46272
Yes, I'll be around my usual times.
I'll be gone all of friday, and a good chunk of saturday, though.
167d35 No.46274
So, it started when I was at the grocery store with my parents.
I was walking in an isle and I noticed that isles always crowded with superfluous junk and that these tables and pallets selling this junk was simply a ploy to get you to buy more. People would see these pallets or bins and load up even if the deals weren't that great. It then occurred to be that our society is heavily materialistic and this is a result of straying from tradition and heavy commercialization of everything.
A good example is Apple products.
When a new Apple product comes out people that have previously owned the last Apple product have to go out and buy a new one to stay in style. It's an odd obsession that never really caught my fancy. However, the interesting part part is that Apple consumers tend to be heavily consumerist people. They buy starbucks wear hip in style clothes and as soon as the next fad comes along. They hop on it. Apple products aren't the only products that have dedicated fanboys. They're everywhere. In every corner of everyday life. It's strange to see this consumerist culture and this buy buy buy and then retire and still continue to buy buy buy. You remember that car that you really wanted as a kid? Well, now you can buy it!
It goes further than that.
While I was shopping. There was a black girl with dyed neon green hair wearing a tutu and a tiara.
I was absolutely repulsed. What parent or guardian would allow their child to wear that in public?
That's when it I realized that the mantra "dress to express yourself" applied to this particular individual. She saw herself as a pariah and continued to alienate herself by choosing bad life choices simply because she adhered to that mantra. If it were a heavily traditional society. She would be rightly scolded and ostracized. But political correctness has killed any attempt for society to shame and criticize her for being so vulgar.

>>46274
I can see how that story is related.
It is very interesting that people almost seem to identify themselves based on the brands they buy. A non-tech example that comes to mind immediately is "Ford guys" and "Chevy guys".
Yeah, shame is a powerful force for good in society, but we've decided that there should be no such things as norms and ideals in the first place.
