I never had a 360, I got the PS3 version and used the english script from the 360 version if I didn't understand something since my Japanese definitely was not good enough at the time to play a whole RPG without help. There have been some fan translation attempts but I don't think any have gotten farther than the menus and just patching in the official 360 script, while leaving new dialogue in Japanese.

The general reception to Berseria seemed to be good but I wasn't a fan. The thing with Zestiria was they tried to do some new stuff with the gameplay, and while it kinda falls on its face they had some pretty good ideas with it, but Berseria just kinda scrapped everything Zesteria tried to do and streamlined it, instead of building on it, which I found disappointing. Also the story started off good, but it's all downhill after the Eleanor joins the party.

Zesteria overall is a worse game, but I saw a good game deep beneath all the shit and was disappointed when Berseria was just an absolutely average Tales game that didn't even attempt to improve on its predecessor.

Summon Night 5 was a TRPG on the PSP. I was originally interested in it because Kuroboshi(probably most famous as the Kino LN illustrator) did the art. It got an English release announced, but the company claimed they couldn't pay for English voice actors or the licence for the Japanese voices, so it shipped with no voice acting whatsoever. The translation also turned out to be essentially guesswork, so most people like to pretend the English release never happened.

The world building was spotty at best, and I don't have a clear understanding of what the "world" is beyond videogame nonsense (even though they were sucked into a book not a game).

The King seems like a shitty stereotype instead of an actual capable leader, and his lack of leadership abilities really shine through during the entire episode.

The fact that the adventurers pick the heroes to team up with is completely retarded, and the King should've just distributed the members fairly. Party comp is incredibly important in any fantasy setting and especially so when you're trying to train the heroes of your world.

In a world of such powerful magic that you can forcibly summon people from separate dimensions into your world you would expect a better application of magic as a whole. During arguably the most important scene in the anime so far you're going to tell me that not one of the Court's magicians had "Detect Lie" or "Forbid Lie" or "Hindsight" which literally lets you see the past. These are basic DnD spells, and the fact that they are completely neglected to further a plot point is contrived.

The fact that there was no investigation whatsoever and everything was taken on word alone, especially against one of the heroes of the world, seems completely retarded. Even in human history we've investigated claims like this against people going back thousands of years.

These are just things on top of my head. When the events unfolded I felt completely cast out of the show because of how lazy it all felt.

Not yet, when getting my first impressions of anime I try to stay completely disconnected from the original work for the purposes of judging it on the merits the show presents. When I get a few episodes in - and it's vaguely interesting - then I start to look at other material. Though I have heard a few things about the show from people I know asking me to watch it and give them my opinion.

Also don't misunderstand, I don't take issue with her existence. The problem I'm having is that she doesn't feel like a natural character so much as she feels like she's about to be used as a band-aid. I could be wrong, but forgive me if I don't think I am.

I would've used one of the many spells already created for a fantasy setting to save the shield hero from actually being fucked out of everything. He can still become jaded and dislike/hate the people that betrayed him, but it would've made more sense. Spear hero doesn't have to be outright implicated in the lie, so he can make out like a bandit and Shield Hero will still have to confront him later.

The girl may or may not be punished, but that's beside the point. The world already had a stigma against the Shield Hero and even though he was found innocent people can still distrust him. Similar to how people accused of rape today, guilty or not, carry a stigma with them. In fact it could be worse because people can start to look at the girl like a martyr because of how bad the king needs the heroes to still be around.

He does basically everything more or less the same because even though he was vindicated people still distrust him - he resents everyone for distrusting him still - and he eventually runs into Raccoon girl. She willingly joins him without the slave nonsense, and he starts to rebuild his trust with humanity through her even though he was rejected by humanity. I came up with this in 5 minutes and I didn't need to change any of the major plot points that dramatically.

With the Shield Hero being found innocent by the courts some people may choose to believe him regardless of the stigma, while with the current standing there is absolutely no reason why ANYONE to help with with the only exception of blacksmith guy. Demi-Humans very commonly have separate abilities depending on type in fantasy, maybe she's a Demi-Human that is capable of seeing alignment or she can sense guilt, regardless it is less contrived than perfect slave underneath a super curse.

He may not have an actual choice but to use her. He stated it himself that without a party he's gimped and effectively useless. Someone capable being willing to help him, while not optimal, is his only actual choice. Hell we saw it in the show itself when the 3 guys asked to join his party and he was going along with it until they revealed their actual intentions. It's not that he doesn't understand that he needs a party, it's the fact that he needs to be in control to be content with it.

A slave that cannot betray him is a plot convenience that removes all risk and real tension in their relationship. Him taking a slave brings him no closer to forgiving humanity for the injustices placed upon him; him being forced into a mutual partnership does force him to confront the disdain festering in himself.
