Leaders keep changing what they wanted to be called. So, it changed Indians the thousands of other names they were given and they kept calling them all stereotypical or racist and finally they reached a point in which they didn't know what they wanted to be called. So they finally settled Native Americans and even then they had issues with that name. Identity politics is are really strange thing when you take in considerations like losing ethnic identity. Blacks here also had the same problem as well. We had two ethnic minorities almost lose their identity to identity politics!
