About a year back someone hacked into the admin and deleted everything with grounded everything for a few days and that pretty much slowed the website to a crawl. It's just some people get angry that they're on /cow/, /kiwi/ or /baphemet/ or they got banned and decided to DDoS the site. If they DDoS 8chan, then ad money stops flowing and people leave the site for 4chan or discord. Back during Gamergate the site was really bad and would hardly function.
