Hear me out.
The rumored 3d MOTHER remake for the Switch seems to be completely genuine.
I recently saw three clips (roughly 5 seconds each) and an image seemingly from a wip trailer.
Here they are in the order they were shown to me.
>The first clip shows Ness running through Onett. After doing research it seems like the layout of Onett is completely restructured from the SNES game. Aside from the obvious difference of being remade in a 3d space, the locations of the buildings seemed to be different with the Drug Store facing parallel to the Hotel. If I were to guess, I'd assume this change was made to allow the city to feel more immersive when translating the layout to a 3d space, since in the original game none of the buildings were facing each other.
>The next shot was a battle sequence of Ness vs Frank. The battle system is entirely new. Turnbased combat is done away with in exchange for a modern real time action RPG system. During the encounter, the background and atmosphere of the fighting area completely transitions into the trippy surreal colorful visuals that the Earthbound battles are known for, basically creating an endless void of colors and shapes to fight in. In this clip we see Ness circling around Frank not unlike a Zelda fight. Frank, weilding knives, lunges at a sentient Teddy Bear following Ness around. Ness swings back with a Yoyo with decent range. In the HUD we can see 3 items can be binded to the Y, B, and A buttons, again not unlike Zelda. Ness has his Yoyo, what I'm assuming is a cracked bat, and a cheeseburger in these spaces.

But furthermore… I've never really understood the point of RPG video games. If only because your interactions with NPCs isn't any different just due to the limitations of the game and its programming.
Which means the only real "role" you're playing is "building" of stats toward a certain style of game play you want. But that's retarded, because there's always some min-max ultimate mish-mash you could be playing that just breezes through the story anyway, which means taking a build you WANT requires intentionally gimping yourself, and what's the point in that if all those roads lead to the same end point anyway (again, on account of the limitations of the game).
That's why I actually enjoyed the concept of Fallout 4 over all previous fallouts. You were shooty McFighter ExSoldier dude off on a predefined narrative quest, and there wasn't any "role" for you to play other than do what's necessary to complete that objective…
I'll take a linear narrative story with a stock pre-defined character any day over an RPG. If I want an RPG I'll just go play tabletops, D&D or HackMaster.
