I've recently come across the phenomenon of aphantasia which means not being able to visualize objects or scenes. I don't have it myself, but I'm definitely very poor at visualizing things. This explains why certain types of hypnosis don't work for me at all. Do any of y'all have similar experiences?

It's fun to work out someones primary modality.

VAKOG. Visual. Auditory. Kinaesthetic. Olfactory. Gustatory

On a quick side note watching a gustatory induction in person was fascinating.

However it usually means that you get the Visuals throwing visual imagery at their subject. I always wonder if I'm hypnosis because I'd rather have word or aural porn than a video.

Then the other fun thing to do is identify videos or recordings that cycle through the modalities so you have VAK .. repeating.

As for Aphantasia the topic has popped up from time to time.

I wonder if it's the other end of a linear scale with synesthesia where the minds eye links senses.

I do have it, can't form pictures in my mind, even simple ones like a written word.

It most likely hinders the experience of hypnosis but not as much as it would seem. When the tist asks me to picture a mansion for example, I get the "feeling" of the mansion, the atmosphere, the smells…

Same with dreams, I never dream of a distinct landscape or of recognisable people, however I can experience very vivid feelings and emotions.

every square of chocolate was fascinating to look at, just imaging eating it, then it tasted amazing and as it went down so did the subject ..

Being good at visualization may be more problematic sometimes, because, at least in my case, I often fill in features, which later clash with the actual detailed description of the elements in question.

Then there is also a problem with visualizing human faces, which aren't properly described at all, so there are too many possibilities to consider, when creating a desired image.

All of those things usually distract from the trance, and in some cases even prevent an enjoyable experience with some files.

To prevent this, I think the tist would have to very carefully architect a scenery's main features from the start, to avoid problems down the line.

Of course some things can be also be changed later, but if this concerns parts of the image which are already very well established in the mind, it is very distracting to say the least.
