The nature of hypnosis is to bring about a change in oneself, with suggestions from outside sources, being you or others. There are no submissive undertones to using affirmations, suggestions, and subliminals to change one's mind or unlock previously obscured parts of it. If that were the case all your life you have been bitched (see commercials and other advertisements, product placements, radio and television, social media, and any education you may have gotten as examples). No, from what you may have seen on this board you might think hypnosis is just an act of submission and faggotry, but the reason for this is simply because almost everyone on /hypno/ is indeed a huge cum-drooling faggot.
