Good news, bad news situation but overall I believe it is good for what you want.
Since the hearing loss was a birth defect the part of the brain normally "saved" for hearing in the handicapped ear will never have been used for this purpose. As a result, your brain "probably" compensated by putting more focus on your remaining ear, and your alternate senses. But you also probably never formed deep connections between heard events and emotional responses.
First the bad news as far as hypnosis goes… since it is your left ear that is deaf, your right side brain never formed a connection to heard audio events. (Stimulus are believed to crossover to the opposite side of the brain than the body part they are connected to.)
This means that according to popular wisdom of psychology that while you may still feel emotional attachment to memories of a smell, a taste, a sight, a touch, etc. you are less likely to be able to respond and remember emotionally the sound of a voice. This is particularly bad for hypnosis since most hypnotists try to use their voices to setup a feeling of comradely, trust, and attachment when starting the hypnosis. You will simply take longer to accept what a voice is saying than if you did not have the handicap. Barring extreme good luck this is sadly the case for you. But don't think this is the end of your dreams of trance just yet…
Now for the good news. First because of your handicap in hearing, you are more likely to be highly susceptible to visual cues. This means that hypnosis tracks which include video should have a stronger effect on you. Furthermore, tools of the trade such as repetitive motion signals should grip your attention even deeper than they do for so called "normal" people. Do yourself a favor and visit the websites for N3v3rs1d3 L@bs (Never and side and Labs) and for N1mj@ (Nim and ja) and check the visuals both sites offer for free usage to see if you notice any effects at all while watching them. I suspect that the Lightbulb effect at NL and some of the contrasting color spirals offered by Nim will be particularly effective.
Ok beyond the good news regarding visual effects, the other good news to offset the bad news is that your hearing impairment started at birth which means that your entire life you have been subconsciously trained your remaining ear to hear more attentively. This means that you likely "save to memory" things that you hear more strongly than most people. However, these memories will likely have very little emotional response and instead will be more… calculative. What this means in terms of hypnosis is that you are more likely to catch the subtle cues hypnotists are trying to pass to their listeners, even if you may miss the bonds of trust they are trying to form.
In general all of this means that you should be focusing more on video hypnosis than audio, your audio hypnosis is more effective with repetition but "trust building" sessions and deepening sections in the starting section of trances are unlikely to be effective. However, your best bet for trance is a mix of visual aids such as NL's Filament (Lightbulb) with constant repetition audio such as V1V3's (Vi and Ve) D33ply Fr@ct10n@t3d (Dee and ply and Frac and Tion and ated).
Mind you all of what I have said here is just based on the best results that science and psychological testing has put together and your actual results may differ. But this is the "best guess" that I can give you.
