Hi there.

The DB Migration help is a little bit confusing, it seems to say that I'm able to store things in a somewhat granular fashion.

I am able to store my thumbnails in a specific folder, thankfully.

But what I am wanting to do is move only the DB files to my SSD, and leave my media on an external. This is apparently possible, but every time I try through the options the helper starts moving the DBs and media, which is a no-no.

Is there something I'm just not getting? Or doing incorrectly?

Ideally I'd have things like:

thumbnails: C:\hydrus\thumbnails

db: C:\hydrus\db

media: D:\hydrus\db\client_files (where they are now)

Thanks in advance.

Hey, I am sorry you have had problems.

Please try moving your files and thumbnails to their desired locations first. This will 'decouple' them from the main database, making them not 'portable'. The button at the bottom moves the db and everything underneath it, which includes your client_files atm. I recommend something like this:

Update your backup if you maintain one.

Set your desired resized thumbnail location.

Hit 'move files now' and wait for it to finish.

Hit 'add location' and set your desired files location. In your case, try D:\hydrus\files to move them out from the db parent folder.

Hit 'empty/remove location' on the old (current) location.

Hit 'move files now' again.

Then do the db/install migration, either manually or through the 'migrate entire database' panel.

Update your shortcut, and try to boot.

Update your backup scheme to match the new locations.

My image is just now from my own laptop, which is similar to your situation. I would expect your final dialog to look similar.

Please let me know if you run into any more trouble or if I did not explain anything enough.

Thanks for the help. It's going to take some time to move all these files, I'll keep you updated when I can do the actual db migration.

update: After I moved the "fullsized thumbnails" the rest of the moving happened really quickly, and the DB move was very painless, and Hydrus is now running smoother than ever.

Thanks for the help!

Bump for being useful, I too was confused.

Maybe add this guide to help files?

Thanks, I have expanded the database_migration.html help page with an extended version of this post.
