someone should start a wiki to serve as coherent documentation for hydrus - an unofficial, central, user-maintained manual. would make spreading the good word a lot easier - hydrus is goddamn amazing, but you only truly realize how amazing it is once you're getting into all the not-immediately-obvious features.

if nobody else does maybe i will eventually, but i'm too busy at the moment.

just a thought~ <3

Good idea, a user-maintained wiki would probably be a better solution than the often outdated help and give more time to hydrus_dev to focus on software development.

I don't have any experience with maintaining a public site, but check out https://meta.miraheze.org/ which offer free hosting without ads for MediaWiki (and please don't use garbage like Wikia).

What makes wikia garbage

It's run by kikes.

wikia has a fucking awful design and interface, it's just absolute shit for any serious use - and it's also moneygrubbing and annoying

Well, it's proprietary and well managed. They're free to change the interface, controls, permissions, and whatnot however they see fit. They can remove mod privileges if ever they see fit.

You cannot link to questionable content or other wikis. You cannot remove your wiki for any reason.

It's both great and terrible at the same time. In that you can expect it to pretty much never disappear and only ever grow. But you can never really have proper control over it.

The interface does always suck though. No matter how much you style it, it's still just polishing a turd.

So basically it's completely fine and /tech/ just likes to have a fit about it.

no, it's shit.

if you're the kind of person who likes hydrus, you'll hate it. it does tons of shit wrong, and you can't control anything.

No, really, it's awful. I don't know a thing about how it's run, but it looks like shit, feels cluttered and loud, is difficult to navigate, and would make any project appear cheap and amateurish. MediaWiki is a hundred times better, hands down.

For an example, compare the MtG Salvation wiki with the MtG Wikia. See how much nicer the former is?

I'm not who you were responding to. Wikia's fine and I've edited a lot of its sites. Just go to classic view instead of the autistic chunky nu-UI they have to provide for retards to feel included.

I mean you DO know how to push a button that says go to classic/manual/raw/whatever right? I hope.

>>3869

>but it looks like shit, feels cluttered and loud

Yeah those fucking neurotypicals and their triggering column-based designs.

>is difficult to navigate

Type partial search. Choose page you want from dropdown list. Press enter. OMFG BLACK MAGIC HOW THE FUCK DO PEOPLE USE THIS

>and would make any project appear cheap and amateurish

Oh no, would one of the largest wiki sites in the world make a project started on an 8ch board with two buttons on the "new page" popup placed corner-wise and lots of empty space not look polished enough? Hydrus is about functionality.

>MediaWiki is a hundred times better, hands down.

At least your post contained something of use.

What about this readthedocs, it looks good and it's adfree & free, it's pretty common with github projects, I'm sure a lot of you have seen it already.

Here's an example

Here's the readthedocs site
