Anyone else know how to distro hop with board related?

It doesn't boot live mediums via EFI except when it does so most distros shoot themselves while installing grub to my gpt HDD.

The only exception to this rule was openSUSE, it installed grub into the ESP without automatically setting a legacy_boot flag on it(complained about missing bios_grub partition but that's about it) and is the only distro I've gotten to boot, even gentoo was no good.

However neither sys/firmware/efi nor efivars are present as I type this post, so how de fug did it boot in the first place?

I thought MBR couldn't address more than 2.2TB of HDD but my home partition alone is 3TB.

the problem is you arent using gpt

The drive needs to have a GPT and 100MB EFI formated partition to work. If the live media has no EFI partition on it, it wont boot either. Most motherboards have a legacy fall back option in BIOS should EFI boot fail.
