But what I’m saying is that the European and American definitions of the term itself are not the same. In Europe it’s acceptable to irradiate seeds to see what random traits pop up, but not to strategically alter a single gene that is scientifically understood to have a specific effect (like pesticide resistance for example).

So when Europeans and Americans argue over “whether genetic modification is acceptable,” they’re not talking about the same processes.
