Depends who you ask. Many would say it's actually Bill or F8th. As for how popular N8 is, on e621 there's only about 100 images of him, the vast majority from before /furry/ died. That's practically nothing.

All the autistic screeching about Bushy being originally an OC doesn't matter, though. It's been done and ignored time and again. Every character is an OC until people decide they like it enough to make it an unofficial mascot; nothing in a place like this is official.

This isn't abnormal if you're gay. It's typical to design a fantasy self-insert character as an ideal, and that includes whatever you find maximally sexually attractive. Most fursonas aren't anything like their owner (a point which is frequently lambasted), and especially physically because they're animal-people in the first place.
