It wasn't any good. I can't explain it, except that everyone and his fucking brother did a youtube LP of FNAF, so there were millions of people who saw it or recognized that it was therefore popular. Then they looked up the lore and fanart and found it edgy and really cool with the murdering furry robots and shit. Basically, the fanbase built itself in a vicious cycle with basically nobody even playing the game. Not like Undertale where only like half the people played the game; more like barely ANYONE played it.
