What are some good looking animals out there that don't get enough love, /fur/? I was talking with a friend of mine about this and he brought up pine martins, genets, civits, aardwolves, and wallabies, but we couldn't think of any more off the top of our heads.

Bats are underrated, as in actual bat like features, not those shitty canines with wings people label as 'flying foxes' which look nothing like actual flying foxes.
There are lots of bat species to experiment with, namely the ghost bat or spotted bat in terms of ears, noses and neck fur. With enough (actual) effort they can look pretty great.

what you refer to as "actual bats" are called microbats and they're ugly as fuck
fruit bats AKA flying foxes on the other hand are basically just flying dogs, they're a different species from microbats that share a common ancestor with them, the difference between the two is the same as the one between chimps and humans so it's actually extremely retarded that they're both just named "bat"

Same with Dinosaurs, especially those that aren't a T-Rex or Triceratops.

I can see where your coming from, but obviously there are a lot of species besides micro bats (which are ugly I agree).
What frustrates me is that you find artists who draw regular foxes with paws and ears and add wings and call it a bat. That's just lazy.

The same reason they put a fish head on a humanoid body.
Or a bull head. Or an iguana's. etc. etc.
▶ No.32458

There IS a reason they're called flying foxes, though (because they truly do resemble some kind of dog)
What should trigger you is when they draw megabat characters with those bigass microbat ears (only one megabat species can use echolocation)

I don't think fish and reptiles can properly be considered "furry", I think those fall under the label of "scalie"

See, now that's a nice looking 'possum. Most opossums I find are dirty little "lel weed XD" drug addicts. I get that the American opossum can be found in the urban parts of Bubger Land, but by god, can we see the Australian Brushtail Possum for once. Or at least a NA one that's not a dirtbag?

Last thing we need is to actually start splitting up anthromorphic animals.
▶ No.33146>>33194

I mean, that divide is already a thing, to be fair.
More of a sub-category of furry (thus, still furry, unlike what that other guy was suggesting), but yeah.
▶ No.33194>>33594

Well, yeah, but the split thus far seems to merely be a means to sort species and art. Nobody actually thinks of scalie stuffs different from furry stuffs, as it were.

Technically the catch all term is anthro, but it's a pretty cringey term to use.
Nowadays I just stick to what the animal is rather than even use the term fur or scaley.

It is a very simple answer if you simply remember the fact that each of us are human and thus have a strong tendency to like and apply humanoid features to other things to make them more appealing. It's half of the root factors for being anthropomorphic, after all.

Maybe, but it's still really gay.
Call me crazy, but I prefer my beast races to be a bit more beast than human.
Otherwise, i might as well just be going after some humans what wear a pair of cat ears.

sometimes some popular species still don't feel very popular, or at least they aren't drawn very well that often.
