You misunderstand life to such a high degree it's almost amusing. To you power obviously should only be used to protect yourself and your family, but have you considered that we endeavor towards global greatness? That the sacrifice of the few, yes including myself, can lead to the success of the many, yes even those above?

The best things man has ever done was the things he did for others in sacrifice of him/herself. If your goal in life is to protect your tenuous hold on your creature comfort, you are already irrelevant, and your opinion less than unimportant: You will not even be forgotten, you will never have been known.
