Once upon a time I admired Bill Gates as an entrepreneur. I started using computers when Windows 2000 came out, initially to store information and records offline, printing documents, and later for basic email and keeping contacts. The only internet access we had during those times was dial-up but that changed back around 2008 when the ISPs installed cable lines in my local area and offered great deals to upgrade. So I took up an offer. I later upgraded to Windows XP, and at first, I liked it. Over the years I have run into several problems trying out newer Windows operating systems. This was before I decided to learn to reverse engineer Windows, or as the kids say today "jailbreak" these operating systems, in order to manage these systems better, reduce CPU & RAM consumption as well make my data more secure from unnecessary third parties and state actors. Now fast forward a decade later…. I've learned a lot about the Big Tech / Govt Spy Industry, and how it has ruined user experience, created incredible unnecessary vulnerabilities and outright trashed and polluted operating system environments.

Reverse engineering Windows does not begin or end with registry modification. There are several other tools besides the registry editor that are equally effective at debloating Windows. Such tools are msconfig.exe (to manage boot options and related system settings)… services.msc (which allows administration and management of all operating system services)… procexp.exe (which allows administration and management of all processes (PID) and threads (TID) running in the background, as well the ability to modify permission sets to those processes) and accessenum.exe (which provides real-time data about all system services, permission sets, drivers, cryptography keys, registry, logs, firmware in use or static and some basic tech savvy options for modification if the user considers absolutely necessary).

There is more, but I will not get into any of that right now. Right now I will provide information to properly reduce bloatware using the Windows Registry Editor. Before doing so, A USER ALERT: do not attempt doing any of this if you use Windows for online work activity, hacking, gaming or 'normfag' social media use as this reverse engineering can interfere with some popular widely-used Windows services. The purpose of modifying registry would be to harden the system and gain control over the operating system BEFORE online use, making it less vulnerable, reducing ability for undesired remote interference as well making the system much faster to use. It does NOT guarantee user security, it will only improve user security. There are dozens more ways to increase security and privacy that has nothing to do with the registry! Such examples would be physically removing a laptop camera and mic. Bleaching sqlite browser session caches routinely and about:config modification of a web browser to remove telemetry, webgl, etc. Even using other Admin tools to revoke certain services from the ability to run on the machine.

Step by step nullification process for vulnerable registry keys:

0. Go to C:\Windows\System32 and find regedit.exe or regedt32.exe

[These are the same program, both boot up the Windows Registry Editor]

1. Pick a targeted registry key using the Registry Editor

2. Right click on the registry key and select "Permissions"

3. Click on "Advanced" then click on the "Owner" tab.

4. Change ownership from default to your user account name, press "Apply" and then "OK"

[See "Current owner:" and "Change owner to:" and set it to your account]

5. Go right back to "Advanced" in the "Permissions" tab

[You will see several accounts such as SYSTEM, TrustedInstaller, PowerUsers et al]

6. Start removing ALL user accounts (including your own) from "Permission entries:"

[To do this right, everyone must be revoked from using targeted registry key!]

7. Press "Apply" and "OK" and you will see the registry key data go blank

8. Right click the voided registry key and click "delete"

[It will come up with an error and that's good! Click "OK" ]

You can now successfully reverse engineer your Windows registry. What this means is any online adversary cannot use a particular REG vulnerability once removed to interfere with your operating system. For example, if you were to purge all the Windows Autoupdate registry keys, Microsoft will no longer be able to automatically update your operating system. If you were to remove all Google registry keys, Google no longer collects data directly from your operating system (at least not by default, unless you are directly accessing their website or using their Chrome browser which I do not recommend doing).

Users must be very cautious when reverse engineering the Windows registry. One mistake could make you have to re-partition the whole operating system over again, if you were to accidentally nullify a system-critical registry key. Doing so is not as hard as you might think, and one mistake could lead to disaster. It has happened to me in the past, I can assure you I have learned from my own previous mistakes. Sometimes trial and error is the best way to learn, learning the Windows registry and what is junk, what is not junk or what is or may be system critical, took me over a decade. I have successfully reverse engineered three Windows operating systems in my lifetime: Windows XP (SP2 & SP3), Windows Vista and Windows 7 (SP1 & SP2). So here is what I target…

TrustedInstaller is a default admin backdoor for Microsoft's industry. All Big Tech companies can use the TrustedInstaller admin account to hijack Windows systems remotely. Hackers also routinely target TrustedInstaller, a well known and brutal hack attack which can hijack a system.

The best thing to do for system stability and security is to revoke ownership and only allow your account to access this backdoor.

I have decided to release the .ini script I use in Windows 7 SP1 for the Ccleaner to routinely wipe sqlite and other logs / caches from the operating system. This includes many tested web browsers such as Brave, (older) Waterfox, Firefox, Opera, Tor, Dissenter, Epic, Basilisk etc. Note that this is programmed for the old Ccleaner, all you have to do is enable ini settings in the Ccleaner options, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner and dump a new .ini script such as I have pre-programmed and backed up. It must be named ccleaner.ini to work, if you see a default one you can replace it. Again, this will only work with Windows 7 and if you would like to copy and use this for your own use you must change my account name "User" to whatever your account name may be (for each and every FILE and PATH setting!) For the old Waterfox and Firefox there is a unique ".default" ID to their %AppData% directories: as an example, 12345678.default would be replaced for anonymity in this .ini script. Look for xxxxxxxx.default and simply replace xxxxxxxx with your Firefox and/or Waterfox ".default" IDs. You will not have to do that with Tor as it is packaged for the desktop and they already replaced the ".default" ID with "profile.default" for all users so as long as the Tor locations set are the same, it will work fine.

http://012f9bb5095f7367.paste.se/

Be aware these settings will pretty much wipe most, if not all, Windows logs/histroy/caches that the operating system normally collects as well, not only online browsing session data. This small .ini is for tin foil users out there that like to keep their systems super clean and dumb.

The bleach setting is set to 35x Gutmann but what else would you expect from me?

I've tried a couple Linux operating systems. I may check out some more in due time. They're not bad, linux has great potential. The fact is, not everything runs very well with Linux (even using Wine). There are some things you simply need Windows for, some things Linux cannot install or does not have an ability to do. Another issue I have is I don't know Linux as well as I do older Windows systems. With older Windows I know very well how to "jailbreak" them and what is useless bloatware garbage and how to get rid of it as well how to manage exactly what can and will not run in the background with some damn good System Admin tools I've collected over the years.

I also have all my software backed up for Windows, something else Linux seems to lack: the ability to download your software, in full, and install it anytime you want (online or offline). I rather not have to rely on older (and likely defunct) online repositories trying to search for what I need hoping that the web administrators still keep it. Anything I need to rely on an online third party to install or physically own is a big turn-off for someone like me. I like my OS backed up physically offline, along with all my software, able to re-install anything I need at any time, without needing to use online repositories every time I revamp an OS. I guarantee you if I were to reboot my old Xubuntu I would no longer find any compatible software for it on an online repository!

Don't get me wrong, Linux is 100% better than Windows 8 or 10. I'd never use the newer Windows operating systems! Windows 7 SP1 is the most modern one I'll tolerate (because I can still control and reverse engineer that!)

If you know a Linux OS which can use the same executable files as Windows while operating as they should, and does not force you to rely on online repositories 24/7 just to install what you need (and I mean software you can backup and install at any time you please online or offline) then I will be more than happy to test out something like that.

>If you know a Linux OS which can use the same executable files as Windows

But why would you want that?

Can't learn new things?

Better things?

Attached to old-ass Windoze programs that have already been compromised all to hell?

I just stuck EndeavourOS on my daughter's old-ass machine, and I'm running it too, as one of six, I'm sextuple-booting! But I'm a glutton for punishment!

Try you out one of the many Privacy-Centric distros.

You might like Kodachi. Like TAILS, you can run it from a USB.

Or Qubes, of course, but that's more of a VM, and you have to kinda have a lot of memory.

Septor, like TAILS, routes all traffic through Tor.

TENS looks interesting. I've not tried it, but tried most everything else, including HEADS.

But Whonix on Qubes is best.

Whonix on VirtualBox or, better, on QEMU / KVM, or better, Whonix on Qubes.

Seriously though, as a base, there is nothing wrong with Arch. It's fast and minimal. EndeavourOS is pretty sleek.

I like ArcoLinux. And EndeavourOS.

Also, before you fall for the Manjaro meme (I've used it), a lot of Manjaro users I have talked to say that Manjaro is just Arch with an installer. However, this is fundamentally wrong! So so wrong.

Read this first: https://github.com/vizs/manjarno

Do your homework, but don't be afraid to learn new things.

I wonder how long 8kun's .onion address will be down?

Nevermind. New address, and they didn't change it on the front page yet.

You won't build your own from source? Or snag some binaries you trust? Or some AppImages? What programs you want?

> inb4 Windoze

I left Windoze behind 16 years ago. Never had trouble finding better software on Linux that did everything I wanted to do. And I have wanted to do a LOT. And have.

Would not know much about Windoze anymore, other than two friends have asked me to hack into their machines after they forgot their passwords, and Windoze is SO SO EASY to be In Like Flynn. Garbage virus-laden Gates-supporting hell-hole you don't even own or have access to every part of. Imagine answering to an outside centralized control. Oh, you don't have to imagine. I do though. I own my machine and everything on it, including the Intel Management chip, which I neutered, but you probably can't if you're running Windoze, and it would be a moot point anyway. Imagine not running an anti-virus once in 16 years. You can't? I can. I haven't needed to. I blow out my whole OS regularly. Just keep my files and Configs backed up. Apps I like I keep. Cross-Platform AppImages, packaged with their dependencies are a thing too, you know! I don't use Snaps or flatpacks though. Cancer, imho.

Finding people who have not yet suckled the CoC is the thing nowadays!

LibreWolf has a nice AppImage, btw. Their latest works great.

I understand Windows operating systems can be easily compromised and complete shit loaded with unnecessary bloatware, thus the very reason I use System Admin tools to reverse engineer and remove a lot of unnecessary junk from the Windows operating system, as well manage what processes are allowed to run in the background.

Although Linux is better in many ways (it's open source and more secure), it still takes a lot longer to find the stuff I need and have it properly installed. Like you, I too have revamped my operating system quite a few times over the years. When I do, it is important for me to have everything ready to install and use, and that is the advantage that Windows software has given me over the years, it's too easy and simple to backup and re-use anything I need at any given time. That gives me an enormous advantage and saves me a lot of time and hassle.

>>15590

The main things I really need Windows for are programs such as DVD Shrink and the fact many p2p clients are only compatible for Windows. I could isolate these activities for Windows alone while I transfer my other operations to Linux, but that will take some time and a lot of research how to use those systems, how to re-configure settings when needed, where to get the AppImages I'll need backed up and to learn a bit about the background system processes, not to mention ANY web browser I touch I must learn exactly how to sanitize (that takes proper software and the information about the browser directories on those operating systems for proper configuration and execution).

I would say the main thing that keeps me using older Windows would be the fact I know how to reverse a lot of the bullshit from it and have it running smoothly, as well having everything I need for it and knowing exactly what to do with it all when need be. If it were not for that, I would never use a Windows operating system to be honest.

And no, I don't mind if software is outdated, my main concerns are 1) is it functional for desired use and 2) do I have complete control over it. If both requirements are met, I don't mind having outdated software or outdated operating systems. Some of the software I use today is over a decade old, but it works fine.

For this very reason, I'd suggest the Linux community make it a bit easier for users to find and simply backup programs for those operating systems (like a permanent archived repo over FTP), it would give more incentive for people like myself to switch over to Linux.

I'll look into that, thanks.

You would be surprised what you can do with some System Admin tools if you learn how to use them, such as regedit.exe … I too have neutered Intel Management as well as a whole lot of other default bloatware/spyware (take a look at some of this thread to see). With the help of Process Explorer (run as Admin) you also have TOTAL control over what is running in the background of the OS, and can disable anything you desire (even svchost.exe if you wanted to freeze your system up lol)

Yeah, I can't do `Snowflake` either. Was just throwin' it out there in hopes that some more Twitter-oriented types, like the Qtards infesting this place, might be able to support the Tor network in some way; I mean, without running a node - but they're welcome to do that too! I used to. It brings attention though.

I cannot imagine `Handbrake` not being able to do EVERYTHING DVD Shrink can do, and more. Wow. Seriously. Here:

Linux Alternatives To: DVDShrink:

https://www.linuxalt.com/linux-alternatives-to/windows/dvdshrink.html

https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/linux-aternative-to-clone-dvd-or-dvd-shrink-133609/

This looks old, but it exists:

http://dvdshrink.sourceforge.net/

I doubt it is as old as DVDShrink!

Besides, DVD Shrink runs under Wine (which I never use, because I long ago found MUCH MUCH BETTER LINUX ALTERNATIVES TO EVERYTHING!)

As for P2P, wow. You really don't know what you're missing, do you? What "Client" are you so addicted to? uTorrent? Come on! You know you can handle a different P2P client! You have handled so many in the past! ALL OF THEM SUCK ON WINDOZE. I never even had a really good P2P experience EVER until I switched to Linux! Sure, `Transmission` is pretty light, and has very few features, but it is fast! Qbittorent may be more your style. I dunno. There are so many. I'm snagging 10 books, 2 documentaries and 2 Music Discographies right now, as I post this, while uploading a video to LBRY.

As for programs and backups of programs…

I literally do not understand what you are talking about. I have loads of backups of programs I like in the versions I like them in. It's not uncommon for people to run the version of program that they like. Frickin' `Kdenlive` comes to mind. They tend to sometimes push out updates that not everyone likes!

As for a permanent archived repo, there are plenty.

You can have your own on your own servers if you want.

WINDOZE IS NOT ONLY CANCER, IT KEEPS ONE IN PERPETUAL SLAVERY.

The Change In THINKING That Comes From Switching to Linux IS "WORTH IT", In and Of Itself!

Seriously.Looking to Centralized Control, "Out There", for all the Solutions, IS THE PROBLEM.

>What "Client" are you so addicted to? uTorrent?

No, not talking about bit torrent, which runs just fine on Linux by the way. Talking about DC++, WinMX, Ares, Shareaza, Fopnu, Tixati (which runs torrent too but has a decentralized torrent/magnet search engine among users). There are other stuff like eMule…. A lot of that stuff I simply cannot find or run properly on Linux (even with Wine). SLSK runs ok on Linux and that was fun. When my old laptop crashed and I booted a newer Xubuntu I was disappointed that some things I once could get I could no longer find. That's why I'd prefer to have a bunch of installation files that can boot up for Linux, like I do with my older Windows system.

I'll consider trying some other Linux operating systems at some point and see if I can find one right for me. Last one I tried was Q4OS but I never went online with it, too unfamiliar.

By the way, the oldest software I use for Windows may not be DVD Shrink…. it's got to be Nero Burning Rom 5.0
