>cheap bar and plates

I got my cheap starter set from a sporting goods store 2 years ago on black Friday. $200 before tax for a 7' Olympic bar and 300lbs worth of various plates. Wrought iron, enamel coated. Not bad but nothing amazing except for the price.

Not at all, you could get a pretty decent built with what you have there

since it is christmas/new year just wait a month and look on ebay. Some of the new year resolution fags might want to get rid of their stuff and you might get them for free/very little price.

Repainting is too much work. To properly do it, you really should brush the rust off, then paint. Just leave them rusty unless they are actively flaking off.

I have a pretty decent grip. It's sometimes possible to hear how bones crack in palms, when someone wants to shake hands with me. I have had a couple of grip trainers and I still don't know if they are a meme or not. The plastic ones with variable resistance are usually set to max for me and I can easily squeeze it for 20 to 30 reps with each hand. That thing has a range from 10 to 45 written on it, but I don't know what that is supposed to represent, so I just assume that it's memes.

I had a hard rubber, 0 shaped one, that seemed impossible to squeeze for others. I broke it in 2nd week, yet I myself still don't think, that I have a strong grip, but I've heard a lot of compliments from people, that I do, even when I try to be gentle and not to squeeze their palms.

From my experience, truck drivers can have steel bending like grip, from years of fighting the steering wheel of a couple of tonnes heavy truck on mountain roads. Even I feel like my hand is being crushed, when I have to shake hands with them.

you'll become very good at hand crushy thingies

if you want a good all-around grip, barbell works, but dead hangs/1 arm dead hangs on a pullup bar is even better. you can also transition to weighted pullups too.

reddit's /r/griptraining is pretty good, mostly full of rock climbers

There is only one grip trainer worth a damn, captains of crush. Someone who doesn’t lift will have a hard time trying to close even level one. Tldr instead of squeezing some plastic shit 1000000 times until you have carpal tunnel you squeeze super heavy shit only a couple reps.
