Are food supplements (whey) a meme?

I was watching a video on jewtube few weeks ago and the guy made a valid point.

he said the the period we grow the most is between 0 and 3 years and during that time we only drink milk which is on 3,4% proteins.

are food supplements just a marketing meme?

I think his point was that we don't need as much proteins as we're told and that 90% of the whey we take end up in farts

Whey has huge problems that are absent from other protein sources. Similarly, something like pure egg whites (minus the yolks) would also generally be a bad idea. Although there are various pros and cons of high and low protein diets, the least you could do is use an alternative to whey such as casein, gelatin, casein + gelatin, or more whole foods. Even adding in some cocoa powder helps in spite of it being an unrealistic main protein source, as the amino acid profile is unique. Lowish protein diets are one of the ideas consistently yielding positive results in longevity experiments, but such diets have variable practicality, especially in athletes and weightlifters. The answer, I think, is to keep seeking ideal amino acid ratios, as some of the primary mechanisms of action in low protein diets promoting longevity are thought to be methionine and tryptophan restriction. Glycine supplementation has been shown to mimic the effects of methionine restriction, so I think seeking protein quality is likely to yield the best results without risking starvation.

Whey is not bad if you can't get enough protein from food.

The part they lie in is when they determine the daily goal protons which is twice the amount you would normally need.

Mostly, eat normal food and you should be good. If you need a budget source of protein though, whey is pretty good at it.

My daily protein intake is ~2g. pr. kg. Is it too much?

You need to go bigger. Nah, I don't know. I just read a study that indicated you oxidize more protein with lower meal frequency. Indicating you'll 'need' more with fewer meals per day. There was also some evidence to suggest whey protein precludes some oxidation. Why that is, I don't know.

I still can't tell you how much you need. Only that if you want to increase mass, increasing protein intake is demonstrably effective.
