Man it's been so long since I've visited this board. But I've decided to call upon my old friends for a favor.

Now, I understand spot reduction is the biggest myth bro science ever spouted and that I can't just simply lose fat in one area.

That being said, I'm a T-Rex and I simply need to get rid of that state.

Now I don't want to follow some routine that focuses on the upper body till it all evens out. I need to have over all smaller legs and thighs because in a sport I'm practicing bigger legs aren't a plus, beyond a certain point bigger legs are a liability holding you back rather than helping you.

Now I don't know what I am supposed to do for this, so any help is appreciated.

I thought I would try and maintain my caloric intake or go on a slight cut, and focus on the upperbody in the gym and leave my legs only to cardio (rowing, running). This way, since I'm not doing work to maintain my lowerbody muscles their volume would be reduced and that cardio and my sport would maintain it at the volume I needed, Fat of course will go at the same rate unless I turn to have been fucked up by nature and have higher fat distribution there.

I also believe that doing more cardio involving leg muscles or doing higher volume leg work in the gym would make the muscles adapt by reducing the volume of glycogen reservoirs as opposed to lower volume training like SS or SL. I'm just pulling this outta my arse here.

>I'm just pulling this outta my arse here.

Yes, you are.

>Now I don't want to follow some routine that focuses on the upper body till it all evens out.

Why not? That's the answer.

If your legs are fat, lose weight, if they are muscular, don't work them so much. Those are the only answers.

I would have followed a routine that evens both parts of the body out if I worried about aesthetics that much. The reason I wanted a slimmer leg is that a bigger leg is a liability in certain sports. My larger legs helped me in the earlier days of basketball when I was just beginning and when I did powerlifting, but I just don't want or need the extra volume now.

And as for the part I pulled outta my arse it wasn't just me I swear, lad.

There was another Anon who posted an actual scientific thread on the science of exercise a couple of years ago. There was something about the number of repetitions increasing or doing cardio making the muscles rely less on glycogen for energy and more on ATP or something like that. I can't really recall what relied on what and at this point it's not of major importance.

Anyhow, I pulled it out of my arse, but it's not entirely without grounds or base.

Weight lifting is ATP intensive. So you're using glycogen more with cardio or endurance. Jumping and such plyometric activity – characterized by its explosiveness and power – benefit from heavy weight training. The vertical jump has been shown to improve best with a combination of squats and jumping itself. Each on its own resulted in a 2 cm increase, but combining them resulted in a 10 cm increase.

Wouldn't you say that the extra mass would hinder jumping at one point? I mean, there should be a graph with mass on the x-axis and performance on the y-axis and the graph would look like a bell curve.

Either way, I have much more mass on the legs than I would probably need right now. And evening out lower and upper body right now is not a pro in the sport I shall practice it makes more sense to just try and aim for lower mass altogether since my upperbody is also not supposed to have more mass than it does right now (become leaner, maybe. But not adding mass)

You should still do squats and deadlifts beacuse they engage a greater part of your body at once which is what boosts Gh production leading to greater overall muscle synthesis. This is the true source of never skip leg day meme. That said for your case since you dont want to grow in the lower body do sets of 20+ with lower weight.

As for upperbody you should do it 2 maybe even 3 times a week and make sure you get in variants like don't just do bench do incline and decline as well, this will help build a more well rounded physique. Also do all upperbody sets in hypertrophy made aka ~8ish reps per set.

As for weight loss remember you cant out exercise your mouth so put down that spoon 90% of your meals should be just protein and vegetables.

It's like you replaced your brain with the sticky and failed to comprehend how irrelevant this post is.

I used to go to a gym where a guy was training to get into the NFL. He was probably 220 lbs, 5'10, and had the most explosiveness and speed you would see from a guy his size. As fast and agile as someone 40 lbs lighter. If you train for explosiveness you'll get it. Do power cleans, box jumps, sprints, jump rope, and other plyometrics. The size isn't the issue, but how you transform it into something functional. You gained it through slow heavy reps, and now you have to use it differently in order to get what you want out of it. Less size isn't going to help you much, just let it slim a bit from the explosive and speed work, if it slims at all. If you're bigger, you can handle more volume and intensity, and need it, because you have more body to transform/specialize. That isn't a bad thing considering the result is better.
