It really depends no things like your weight, sex, sensitivity to mercury, and how quickly your body is able to get rid of heavy metals, and the tuna you eat.
Weight and Kind of tuna you eat is the only thing you can control. Each kind of tuna has a different quantity of mercury per serving. You have on average:
>Light tuna: 5-ounce serving (about 1 can) = 18.11 micrograms of mercury.
>Albacore (white) tuna: 5-ounce serving (about 1 can) = 49.53 micrograms of mercury.
>Steak tuna/sushi: 5-ounce serving = up to 97.49 micrograms
Then you need to calculate safe amounts of mercury you can consume according to two possible guidelines for mercury amounts that put you in minimal risk. EPA recommends 0.1 microgram per kilogram of body mass per day, and CDC recommends 0.3 micrograms per kg of body mass per day. Then you just need to do some math to find your safe dosage.
If you are lazy or ate too much mercury, you can also use this calculator: https://www.ewg.org/research/ewgs-good-seafood-guide#.W1fTjbn3mUl . It only lists light tuna, so cut the recommendation in three for white tuna.
>Two cans a day
Unless you are a really fat fuck, 2 cans a day of tuna is most likely too much. Cut it to at most 1 daily of light tuna if cannot go a day without eating it, but I would say that is pushing it too. Besides, adding more variety to your diet will only do you good. Just eat some other fish, eggs, or another convenient protein source. Or just make your other protein portions bigger. Or just turn into a maniac from eating mercury.
