What's your current goal, /fit/, and how is your progress on it? Doesn't all have to be /fit/-related, making any positive change in your life goes. So, I'll start:

I started at 235, now I'm 227 after around four weeks. I plan on losing about two pounds every week.

>Start a bodybuilding routine

I used to do a strength routine a few years ago, never reached very impressive numbers but it benefits me to this day. I don't want to measure myself by where I used to be back when I lifted regularly, and besides, I'd like some aesthetics. I think my genetics are quite good for that. My upper arms are naturally big and I even have some visible veins, and my skeleton is that of a barrel, good conditions to become buff.

I first wanna focus on the weightloss and start the routine when I'm lower, maybe 200lbs. Otherwise, the two goals might interfere. They don't have to, but I know who I am and that in my case, they probably will. Until then, I'll try to get back in the habit of going to the gym, and see what that feels like with reduced caloric intake. That's just the experimentation phase.

Oh, and one more good thing: Higher volume (thinking of 8 to 12 reps on most exercises, besides deadlift) means I get more practice with the moves, and one of my biggest issues is not muscular strength but that my coordination is shite and I therefore can't recruit my muscles properly. So a bodybuilding routine will probably do more for my strength levels than one focused on muh powerlifting.

Still got it. Maybe have to build up my squats again before I can do them for higher volume at respectable weights, might do 5x5 at -125lbs and hope my strength returns before my ego atrophies and /fit/ lynches me for having skipped leg day. But besides that, I am still strong and conditioned enough to do such a routine.

My goal is to reach 175 lbs at ~8% body fat. Currently sitting at 162lbs 8%. Going to start another bulk in August and push myself up to near 190lbs, then cut myself down to 8% for next summer.

I have other goals but this is first in the sequence.

I know some friends who played soccer in college and high school, first division for all of them I think, so becoming a good challenge for them is my goal. I don't know any college level bballers or sluggers, but I'll keep practicing anywho.

Begin writing and journaling regularly

That's a good aspiration, but actually doing that will kill you. Everyone needs some leisure, whatever it is, be it games, joking with friends, or reading a light book. You don't have to read Cosmo, but you should lower your performance and give your mind and body time to readjust. Being productive 24/7 is like keeping a bowstring under tension, it will eventually break. That's just how humans work.

By all means, try to be more productive, almost everyone is at risk of being too unproductive and not of breaking from lack of game and leisure, but I'm telling you this so you allow yourself some rest when you really need it and don't feel bad about it.

Very likely won't work. Really, don't cut down on sleep, it's insanely important. It's where your body burns fat, builds muscle, replenishes neurotransmitters and hormones, and where your brain actually learns. Without proper sleep, your productivity is lowered throughout the day. If you want to sleep less, focus on having better sleep. You may also be able to cut out an hour or two out of your sleep but that's very unlikely when you had a productive day.

The guys that brag about reading a book or two every day usually read YA-shit all day long, or they have a shitty retention. But 100 books a year is still doable, I did that too.

Your fitness goals are similar to mine, albeit I'm a skeleton and would like to look like a more aesthetic skelly. I used to strength train with unimpressive numbers too but got tired of it because I don't have the genetics unfortunately (not like you Jürgen, keep at it)

Also reading about nutrition and actually keeping the advice written there

I am hesitant to a proper bodybuilding routine however. PPL seems unnecessarily intense but I would like to try it out for discipline gains.

I did 1024 sit ups yesterday (took a bit over 7 hours) and nothing is even that sore. Might try another record but with push ups or something. 1024 push ups within 8 hours.

I was reading about an old sailor who for the tougher months out on sea has to work 20 hours a day and sleep 4, for the entire month. Physical labor. What replenishes your nerves and hormones is kick-ass, victory, and gasoline steel burning grit. Today I feel more replenished in my nerves and hormones than I have in the past 3 fucking years KRAUT. I feel dynamic… got that fire again. GOT THAT WIND AND FIRE.

Which contradicts nothing at all that I said, which in turn makes it pretty cringy that you make this a take-that. Seven hours is an insane amount but it leaves time for other things. I talked about getting zero rest and play.

Yeah, I call bullshit on that, anon. He's probably on duty that long but he isn't at peak performance when he's got four hours of sleep a day. My mother worked similar hours and she felt like shit after a while. It's an impressive feat, but in the long run, it isn't healthy.

My example wasn't the foolproof example of no rest and play. I didn't even feel sore the next day, and I have no intense workout routine that I can use to explain it. I sit around most the day, do some isometrics and tensing to keep shit circulating and maintain my strength, and do some workouts that are all over the place each day but not much. Can you call 25 squats, push ups sit ups and bridges 4x a day (with an hour+ between) an intense workout? Or how about striking a soccer ball for 45m - 1h at a somewhat casual pace? Yesterday, a day after the sit ups, I did 480 push ups in an hour to set a personal record. I feel fine. I felt pretty great yesterday. I don't even feel sore today.

I have a friend whose parents worked in Alaska 16 hours a day, and walked around on dates together another 4 hours, every day for 3-4 months (I forget specifically). They both gutted fish. They say it was hard hard work, but the money was great. They're not big strong people. Normal fuckin' people.

Being productive every minute doesn't mean hard physical work every minute of every day. Reading a book can be productive. Writing. Playing music. Art. Programming. There are plenty of people who wake up at noon, program/hack/academic shit, then go to sleep at 4 -5 AM.

Yeah, switching up your routine helps a lot. You can add three hours of productivity to a day just by reading for three hours, that won't make you burn out if the rest of what you do is physically demanding. Right now, I am reading so much that I have to take times of rest just to process everything, but a workout in the middle of the day can still be added to that, because that's a different kind of stress.

So, I don't think our attitudes are that different at all. Our respective wordings just exaggerated the differences.

Skinny lads need all the weight they can lift and 10 lbs of food a day, but you got the training weight built in + free gains fuel. Me doing this calisthenic shit is equal to you doing half the reps in the same time, and you'd get more muscle more gains.

I found that some intermediate level of physical stress helps the most with my mental gains. Something that doesn't run my metabolism dry, like a day of heavy deadlifts does, but also is more than a short walk. A longer walk, I think, works the best for me, but so does weightlifting.

My squat is cursed, I'm telling you. My all time record was 260lbs for two reps. Also not very high, especially for my bodyweight, but far stronger than 125lbs.

I once reached 160lbs for seven reps, that was my all time record, then my squat form broke down after two weeks of abstinence. Took me weeks to fix that and get back on track. After I reached the 260lbs, my form again broke down, and I stopped doing anything heavier than 176lbs for fear of hurting myself. It was that bad.

With deadlift and bench press, it's similar, but never that bad. My form breaks down on all lifts very easily, guess that's just terrible muscle memory. Which is why I should stick to it this time, because I am deeply convinced my muscles are objectively very powerful, and I'd rather not waste that potential if I can help it.

Thanks, my man. It is reassuring for me to know I can run on a deficit, lose fat and still make muscle in one day. That, along with the massive calves, are the two things I'm gonna miss when I lose weight.

Not much to say on my lifts. I am significantly weaker than I used to be in my prime, but I think I am making progress on that front.

My weight stalled for a week on 225 and above, but I brought it to 223 by now. That's a plateau broken. Guys, don't expect linear weight loss. If you stall for a week and feel like jelly, and develop strong cravings, don't give in. It's your body suffering a panic attack. Google "whoosh effect". Sounds gay, but the science seems solid.

For some reason, my rest heart rate ranges anywhere from 40 to 60 BPM. I am no endurance athlete and in fact hate running, but I never faint and seldom get dizzy for no good reason, and last time my heart was screened, it was 100% healthy. So no idea what's up with that.

Gotta get my systolic blood pressure in line, though. Way too high.
