I quit smoking a week ago but now I'm slower at running than I ever been. I used to run a 5km in under 25 mins not very good sure but now it's over 30 mins. I have maintained same weight throughout. But I don't want to go back to smoking anymore but do anyone have an explanation? I can't find shit online. I thought smoking decreased vo2max?

Nicotine will suppress your immune system in your lungs. When you come off, your lungs start reacting to all the shit in the air and the soot in your lungs, you get inflammation and mucus. It will return to normal eventually.

I thought so but I noticed a few former smokers feeling the same way ie reduced performance. I quit smoking, weed, alcohol, caffeine, refined sugar and drugs (used to like meth, cocaine, LSD etc alot). I also don't take any supplements now either. Haven't noticed any lost of gains so far but I'd like to get good at cardio.

Yeah, it's a hugely powerful effect. I'm not a smoker, but If I'm really sick, lungs clogged, coughing, etc. I'll smoke a cigarette and immediately feel better.

Unfortunately, you are paying for it now. Maybe get an asthma inhaler to get you by for a while.

thats a rediculous claim

if you people are so focused on the time of your run then you should increase the frequency per week of your run.
