Hey guys, newbie here. Want to ask a question: I want to get fit, and had been doing so for some weeks a year before. However, I am clumsy and whenever I fuck up doing something, I get depressed immediately. So, how do I cope with this? I don't want depression to interfere with my progress all the time.

the brain corrects for error with repetition. each failure is a data sample for your mind to use in building a flawless program to do whatever it is you're doing. try to think of it less as a fuck up, and more as a warm up. success is on the far side of failure.

You're doing two good things here.

1. *improving your self-confidence* which does wonders for many men's negative self-talk. Will it totally go away? Probably not but it will get a LOT better. I can attest to that.

2. *getting fit is a good antidote for clumsiness* – being clumsy will happen much less, triggering that negative reaction much less at the same time.

You gotta hang in there. I promise it improves but it'll seem very slow. You're on the right track, this will do you a lot of good. Stick to it, make it a regular habit.

Accept that it's a natural part of the process. A common mistake is to think like this:

<Oh man I fucked up, now it's going to take longer for me to reach my goals!

When you should think like this:

>I fucked up. I didn't know what I was doing, but now I do. This was a necessary step for me to reach my goals.

You will fuck up a lot because nobody understands the nuances of how their body works from the beginning, so it's important to understand this distinction. Pick a program, stick with it vigorously, and you'll either succeed or fuck up as quickly as possible, and thus realize your goals faster.

a6410d  No.138879

>>138877 So the only thing I need is to acknowledge the fuck-ups ( accept that they're only natural ) learn from it, will myself to stick to the "plan", and proceed?

de90b8  No.138880

>>138879

Yeah dood. Of course you should only "stick to the plan" if it's working for you though. Fucking up isn't always having bad form or dropping shit, sometimes you fuck up on a strategic or logistics level. Eat right, do your routine for a month. No results? Maybe you need to refine your diet. If you're absolutely sure you're getting the right nutrients and you have poor progress after several months, then you can consider changing plans. That's the kind of flexibility and trial-and-error you should be prepared for.

a6410d  No.138881

>>138880 You're right. I think I'll have to change my diet a little bit. Anyway, when I said "will myself to stick to the "plan" ", I meant the determination. Depression always gets me to quit after a few days due to either fuck-ups and/or laziness. So it's hard for me to maintain a regular basis.

Depression causes people to quit chasing physical fitness, a lack of physical fitness worsens depression.

It's a bitch of a loop to get caught in - unfortunately the only way out of it is to fight against the very tendencies that are keeping you in.

I don't know about you, but I'm a guy who does well by mindlessly following a schedule. I put things on the calendar ahead of time and just shift my mind into neutral. "Trust the process" is in the same vein as this - don't over think this, don't let your brain talk you out of things.

Lots of people do well with a very rigid, planned schedule - I'm one of them. Maybe you are?

a6410d  No.138885

>>138883 So I need to set a timetable for my workout. Thing is, I'm pretty bad at organizing timetables. But I can try.

> Thing is, I'm pretty bad at organizing timetables. But I can try.

You've got the right idea! You're not good at these things because you don't have any practice doing them.

Sucking at something is the first step towards being good at something. That's totally natural and something that all of us here have gone through. Repeat that to yourself over and over.

Okay so the way that I built my schedule was to use a calendar that I always had - If it's your cell phone calendar or something you carry, it doesn't matter.

Let's start with last Friday. What did you do, starting from when you woke up? Write all that down and then look at it. Did you waste time somewhere? Do you have some free time to exercise, either by yourself or in a gym? When did you eat?

Write it all down for tomorrow, adding in whatever your Tuesdays look like. FOLLOW IT WITHOUT THINKING. If it says 'get up at 0700' then you get up at 0700. If it says "Depart for school at 0745" then you have to be ready to depart at 0745. If you need to add "0730 Get dressed" then add it.

Build a quality schedule that you can trust and that does good things for you. FOLLOW IT. If you can improve it for the next day then do it. You'll learn good habits, you'll learn how to add items, you'll learn time management.

There are three 'P's to getting better at something: practice, practice, practice.

You can do it! Have a virtual fist bump, anon to anon. C'mon, gimme a bump, don't leave me hanging…

a6410d  No.138889

>>138887 Sorry for replying late. Had to get lunch.

So I have an IPad, and it has calendar app, so maybe I can put the plan in there. However, the first week will not be well, I think.

Anyway, *fistbump* . And thanks, bro :D

How are you doing, Cananon?

>>138887

I can attest to the schedule. Instead of sitting here and zooming out into the nether, I zoom into the schedule sitting in front of me. I BECOME the schedule. The schedule becomes me. Now I LIKE the schedule. Soon I'll NEED the schedule. I am okay with this symbiosis.

You should be sprinting anon. Sprinting is man's exercise. Play a sport or something, there is always sprinting + more in sports. I go to the park just to practice soccer and feel much much fucking better than before, and noticed that I will just do something dexterous or strong now without a thought or any feeling of fatigue or effort from it. Feels like high school except I have a tougher body now than then… so, better. Much more elastic, better emotional and mental health, smarter, more charismatic, more social, feeling that fucking sunshine in my blood… it's great.

Be kinetic, anon.
