Recommend me herbs I can steep in water for drinking pleasure and health gains. I'm ditching the carbonated jew, incl. diet soda. I even got one of these swanky tea machines that do all the work for you.

Anon, you just fucking jewed yourself. At most an electric tea kettle or temperature-adjustable keurig to prepare hot water without a stove is nice, but that's all you need. Let me share with you the secrets of making tea…

<What you need

>Something to heat and contain heated water

>A deep/"cup" mesh, disposable tea bags, or infuser ball (key is you don't have to stick your hand into the water to remove it)

>(Preferably wood) block of some sort that covers cup

>Cup (I recommend double-walled Boron Silicate "Borosilicate" but even ceramic is fine, just avoid anything overly glossy/with a ton of pain on it)

<How you do it

>Bring water to a boil

>Let it sit for 5 minutes (2-3 minutes if you keep your house below 18 Celsius)

>Put about a teaspoon of herb ingredient into the mesh apparatus for every 4-6oz of hot water

>Pour water over mesh apparatus until desired level of water in cup (or until herbs are "completely submerged" anyways)

>Let it steep (cover it with the cup-block)

>Let it cool until it's painfully hot to take a large sip but otherwise manageable to drink it warm (don't burn your tongue)

Alternatively add an ice cube for every 8oz if you're in a hurry, or about the equivalent amount of cold water

>Enjoy tea

There's no hard and fast rule so follow any included instructions, however generally white tea turns bitter after 1.5 minutes, green tea has about 2-3 minutes depending on type and quality, black tea has between 2-4 minutes, and herbal tea needs at least 5 minutes of steeping. You can drink it if you oversteep it, but if you oversteep it by more than a minute, you should just leave the herbs in there and make it a "cold brew" at that point.

As a general rule of thumb…

Always buy loose leaf if it's an option. It takes less time to brew, you can reuse it at least once if not twice depending on the leaves, and when bought in bulk you're looking at maybe 5 cents more per glass of tea (17 cents/cup tops) compared to the 3-7 cents you'd spend on bags. Anything more than 17 cents/cup is a ripoff unless it's from a specialty store that actually sources their shit straight from the farm explicitly for tea autists, and the shop better be run by an old obasan of questionably slavic or asiatic descent.

Green Tea Powder

Avoid it. It's usually made by chinks and they stuff it full of filler. It might not even contain green tea. It's only good to be mixed with vanilla whey protein shakes to produce a vanilla green tea shake which is fucking delicious and gives you extra energy on cardio days.

Macha Powder

Overpriced garbage. If you're worried about antioxidants/caffeine content, there are better things to ingest. Macha is good/amazing for cooking/tastes good, but it's overpriced shite and quality green tea leaves are cheaper/less grassy. That being said, Costco carries a "macha-tea leaf" teabag mix which is decent if you're in a hurry/almost comparable to loose leaf tea leaves.

I'm not gonna get into the various strains and cultures of tea since that's more the realm of tea autists and won't do a newcomer much good. Just remember loose leaf is better than teabags. That being said, a few things to keep in mind…

Gunpowder Green Tea

If you like bitter green, this is your best bet. It will have the most noticeable "green tea" flavor.

Nip Green Tea

Best green tea and also the most mild. Pretty forgiving if you oversteep it.

Irish "Breakfast" Black Tea

This is the most comparable taste to coffee. Drink this if you want something that tastes like coffee while getting the benefits of black tea.

Yerba Mate ("Y-herb-ah Mah-tay")

Drink this if you want the caffeine of coffee while getting the benefits of tea. It's a South American herb. Best served with either lemon, mint, or steamed milk if you can't handle the bitterness.

Earl Grey/Lady Grey

The go-to for drinking black tea because black tea is fucking disgusting by itself unless it's Irish breakfast tea, and mixing milk with black tea is a surefire way to get kidney stones in your 30s. Just drink green tea or white tea, nigga!

Fly Agaric Tea ("Amanita Muscaria")

This tea will get you drunk. You will feel drunk. You won't hallucinate unless you already have schizophrenia. This shit grows like a fucking weed around the world, so it's not hard to get a hold of, and it tastes good (kind of a nutty flavor). I like boiling them thoroughly and then cooking them with some butter/salt/pepper or even battering and frying them, since they're safe to eat if you boil out the toxins. That being said, 1 cap will feel relaxing, 2-3 caps will make you feel drunk for a couple hours, 3-5 caps will make you feel like you want to rip your eyes out of your sockets, and 6+ caps will put you in the hospital. You can make about three cups of tea from one mushroom. Note that this can cause brain damage/schizophrenia if you drink it too often since the ibotenic acid causes lesions in the brain. Beware puking/stomach cramps if you have a sensitive stomach. Fun times.

Mint Tea

This is good for focusing but you should avoid it more than once a week because it will give you man boobs/make you even more effeminate than the gook you are, OP. Goes good with lime juice. Peppermint variety can settle an upset stomach.

Cinnamon Tea

Increases circulation from personal experience. Good when you're drinking & trying to write a novel, doing cardio (drink before or after cardio and take a fish oil supp when you do), and for better erections if you drink it 1-2x/day. Tastes like shit. Goes good with cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, chicory, and/or vanilla. Some weirdos tell me they put black pepper in their cinnamon tea to make it a hunger suppressant.

Citrus Teas (usually lemon)

These are good for sore throats and when preparing to sing. Otherwise you're just destroying the enamel on your teeth if you drink it daily.

Rose Hips (Rosebud) And/Or Chamomile

These are good relaxant teas. They will help you relax/unwind after the gym or a hard day's work. Both of them will make you effeminate but they aren't as bad as mint so as long as you work hard/eat right it won't be an issue even if you drink it nightly since it isn't at the level of hops. Goes good with lavender, lemon, orange, and peach additions. Tastes delicious by themselves.

African Rooibos (red bush tea)

Delicious. It's a great relaxing tea that you drink for flavour. Allegedly it's very high in antioxidants but I don't give a shit about that. I use it as a study tea because it's smooth. It goes great with hints of vanilla since it naturally already has hints of vanilla. Allegedly it makes a good base for chai tea.

Hibiscus

Another delicious tea. Goes great with orange peel/juice, lemon, and licorice. It just tastes good, anon. Beware the deep red will stain shit.

Jasmine Tea

Not a big fan of it by itself, let lavender tea it has a distinct flavor but it's too expensive/doesn't have enough benefits to drink by itself. It goes great as an addition to green tea though so long as they don't add plum to it.

Remember to drink responsibly. You can get tea drunk and it is not as pleasant as it sounds (relaxing until you have to piss every ten minutes).

Oh and obviously take the herbs out of the water after steeping it/while cooling it or you'll have bitter tea.

Ah, I forgot a few.

Mugwort Tea

Good for lucid dreaming/relaxing. Taste is meh.

Pu-Erh Tea

Both the "fake" (loose) stuff and pucks are good, but the pucks taste better. This is by-far the best tasting tea, but it will give you flouride poisoning so only drink it like two or three times a week.

Potato Skin Tea

Poisonous but fucking delicious.

Oolong Tea

Delicious, smoky tea. It's not quite green tea and it's not quite black tea. It's mild like green, but has the smokiness/sting of black. No two oolongs will taste the same.

Btw I enjoy chamomile with vanilla very much, I bought a pack from Pukka but it's pretty pricey for what it is so I'll just buy loose chamomile next time.

Yerba mate. I've been drinking it for about 3 months now and I really love everything about it. Replaced both tea and coffee for me as it contains a ton of good minerals and vitamins and also slightly more caffeine than black tea. Also tastes better than coffee. Expensive as hell, though, roughly 11 eur per kg here but I've seen it about half price in Germany. You can probably find it in most tea stores if you live anywhere near a big city but if you can't I'd say just to drink green and black tea instead.

This anons advice is rock solid >>138280 for anything tea. I don't really get what he means by kidney stones although I have only drank like 10 cups of tea with milk in my entire life because tea with milk is puke tier. If you do intend to start drinking mate just get used to the bitterness, I started to just handle it after my 3rd gourd.

Where's a good place to buy good Yerba in Burgerland? Are teabags okay, or do you want to brew it with loose leaf?

352592  No.138366

>>138354

Sprouts sells it but it's expensive. Probably specialty tea stores or hippy stores are your best bet.

Teabags aren't horrible in most cases, you're just buying significantly shittier tasting tea that takes longer to brew, comes out more bitter, and is of overall lower quality in terms of nutrition. It's like the difference between steel cut (loose leaf) and rolled oats (teabags), except sometimes your rolled oats are secretly quick-cooking steamed oats (really shitty tea bags).

>>138354

Also consider you get 2-3 cups from loose leaf whereas you're pushing it for two cups from a tea bag

It's not healthy but I've been drinking Thai tea.

>boil littler more than 1 cup of water

>put 4 teaspoons directly into water

>let steep for 2 or 3 min.

>strain through 2 coffee filters over metal strainer.

>mix in 2 spoon fills of condensed sweetened milk.

>one teaspoon of sugar in the raw

>drink hot or add ice. I drink it with ice, but you need a stronger brew for that.

It's just a tasty beverage.

Don't bother with bags. There's a multitude of reasons why loose is better, it's cheaper, better quality, can be more fine tuned to your taste by adding more or less, can be cycled for longer and can be prepared better in a traditional gourd. You really wanna avoid bags in general if you want to buy good tea.
