So my nearby gym has been gone for about a month now.

Lo and behold a Planet Fitness will be "coming soon".

Would it be worth it /fit/?

It will literally be a block away and the next closest gym is almost 20mins away…

e05f2d  No.136697

All you really need is a barbell with rubber plates to do Olympic weightlifting. Is that good enough for a "gym"?

just buy the equipment you need, it will literally pay for itself within a few years and it will pay for itself in convenience/gainz long before that

the only caveat is a place to put it, that's why I haven't done it yet… I think about building a small shed in the backyard just to lift in sometimes

Depends what you do. Most gyms are useless. 90% cardio machines and a few dumbbells.

Working out at home is best but if you lift heavy the cost of pl8s gets up there.

You can get you’re work out done in the time it’s take you just to get to the gym.

Weak. Who really needs a dining room table? Kids room? Fuck that, get that shit out. It's all about priorities.

>Weak. Who really needs a dining room table? Kids room? Fuck that, get that shit out. It's all about priorities.

For me, the only spot to put it in is occupied by an extra bed downstairs that my parents use to fuck in. I'm like, "cmon I want to buy gym equipment so I don't need to go to a gym anymore, I'll pay for everything, move the stupid fucking bed" and they're like "nooooo just go to the gym" I fucking hate them

There's no room and it's on the top floor so I would be concerned about destroying the floor if I drop something. I would want it to be in the basement and to put a mat under everything. There's that one perfect spot but it has the damn bed.

get rid of your bed and replace it with a piece of plywood with a horse stall mat on top. just sleep on a bedroll and don't drop your shit. ez pz

I tried that. After five months the back pain was too much and I had to get a mattress. Still slept in my power rack, but I picked up and put the mattress atop the rack when it was squattin' time.

OP here.

So concensus seems to be to die rather than join.

> Home gym

Not doable yet, but moving out in a couple of months. 50/50 whether I have more or less space after then.

I also have a confession to make regarding a gym: I lack motivation unless I can look up to people and look down on people (pic related).

>>136717

> the drive time

That's why I liked my old gym. I'm wondering if they sold out, given the up and coming location a mile away.

3e2a22  No.136950

stay away from mcgyms and mcdojos, HUGE waste of money. just learn how to move your body at home. you don't even need a home gym, just a wide open empty room with padded or soft floor and a computer for hooktube tutorials.

While I find some of their commercials pretty funny my understanding is that they don't even have a squat rack and their only free weights are dumbbells under 50lb so why even bother? I mean what would you even do if you went run on the treadmill and eat some cookies?

8d6296  No.138039

>>138035

No (or limited) free weights. Pizza night. Bagel day. And they actually have an alarm they will ring if they think you are working too hard. "No gymtimidation."

It's dirt cheap (10$ a month) if you can handle the limitations, it's not a bad deal.

331c2b  No.138040

Are you the anon from a few years ago? I'm telling yah man, an incandescent light and space heater will provide enough warmth in winter, just buy the stupid children's playmats for resting your weights on and use a dirt or straw floor.

The manager "mostly" has the final say, but if a customer complains, corporate will tell him/her to shut 'em down and if they don't comply, they'll lose their job, so most either ring the stupid alarm on you, or they just don't give you the option at all by taking out the heavy weights. If they at least had a pool I might be able to tell a hungry skeleton or fatass that Planet Shitness is worth investing into for 3-6 months to get your shit together, but last I checked they make you sign up for a year contract, and they don't even have swimming pools so you're basically paying to rent cardio equipment. Don't even get me started on the mental gymnastics Planet Shitness members will use to justify their membership when you call them out for not using a real gym.

If you have to use a meme gym/McGym, I've found that Crunch Fitness is the most bang for your buck (it's like Planet Fitness, but for $10 more you get free weights/machines/a pool, and the staff will ignore you unless you're slamming equipment around), followed shortly after by 24 Hour Shitness if you like to work out late or are military military gets a fucking great discount at 24 Hour Shitness, and they'll sometimes give you the military deals if you're planning to go in within the next six months/can pull up text messages from your recruiter. Obviously a real gym is preferable, but if you can't work with regular gym hours or can't afford a real gym, those two are you next two best bets. I've been at 24 hour for about a year now. I hate that the place is packed with at least 200-300 people at virtually all times on the weekdays until 10PM when it drops down to about 100 people, but most of them are niggers so they tend to avoid the pool/free weights, so other than bench press I can almost always work my way into my routine with maximum wait time of 5 minutes. Funnily enough, there's virtually no one there Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

>I hate that the place is packed with at least 200-300 people at virtually all times on the weekdays until 10PM when it drops down to about 100 people

Ouch. My local YMCA is pretty empty. Same PTs hanging out near the power racks looking for chumps, I mean customers. Bunch of cardio bunnies and hipsters on ellipticals.

331c2b  No.138102

>>138062

I had a YMCA membership for a while. It was nice, but when I got a better-paying job they demanded I pay $70/month for a membership. Wasn't worth it to have 70-year-old men fling their dicks in my face while I'm trying to get changed. There were very few people using the equipment which was nice though.

I think the real question is why do they have a separate fuck mattress rather than just fucking in their normal bed. Also how does anon know that its a fuck mattress in the first place.

f4d493  No.138117

>>138102

Yeah, the YMCA isn't cheap, but Gold's wants double that. It's really no cost to me as my wife enrolled in the family plan. I have a rack at home, that's where I usually lift.

It's a gym for self-conscious ladies. Assuming the manager doesn't give a fuck about what you do by your lonesome, it's a good deal, but depending on where you live it's gonna be fucking packed.

No, Planet Fitness is not a gym. It is a "health themed" experience, where fat shits go to take selfies and eat tootsie rolls while providing an alibi for lying on the internet.

They have the equipment necessary there to get /fit/, but you are penalized for using it.
