>MORE than 30 million children trundle through school cafeteria lines every day in the United States and thanks to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which took effect in 2012, they are no longer served greasy pizza, salty French fries and sauced up chicken wings. Meals must now be lower in fat, calories and sodium and contain lean proteins, more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. And kids from coast to coast are wrinkling their noses.

To any teachers wanting to get /fit/. What is your work around to eating cafeteria food?

Make sure you allow phones out so they can look it up on their time too!

Two options, bring food from home or just don't eat anything and have a larger breakfast/dinner. You aren't going to die or pass out if you just skip lunch.

>You aren't going to die or pass out if you just skip lunch.

skipping lunch is bad, even if you eat larger breakfast. I once did it in primary school and almost passed out during P.E. lesson. It way more healthier to eat regularly than to skip meals. When you skip meals, your body starts to conserve energy, and when you eat your next meal, you eat a lot more than you normally would.

This is only true if you're used to eating three meals, I stopped eating anything but lunch and it sucked the first two days but then I went back to peak performance. It makes sense when you think about it, our ancestors didn't exactly have three meals a day guaranteed

I grew up in a nice neighborhood and they served processed, frozen garbage pretty much exclusively. Shit like hot dogs, frozen cheeseburgers heated in the wrapper, pizza, and so on. If your kids go to public school and don't get a packed lunch, they're probably better off starving.

I went to an inner-city school and we had whole-grain pizza (even got "margarita style" pizza), Chinese, Mexican, the shitty frozen burgers, subs, and a whole range of other foods for the low, low price of $0.79/meal (for the school's expenses. For us it was $2/meal or $0.98/meal if you were on reduced lunch). The trick is we had all the culinary arts programs in our school district compete to see who could make the most "tastey" meal for $0.79/plate, then force-fed it to our principals and superintendent who were the "judges" of the competition. 1st/2nd/3rd place got something stupid like $200 and a little medal to put on their resume, and the top 10 favorites were put on the school menu for the cafeterias. We're in a purple state/red city, but bulk food is far more scarce/harder to access than it is out East/out West. It really is a matter of lack of giving a shit on the part of the schools/administration. It's gone down in quality a bit since I went to high school, but it's still not that bad. PDF related.

The parents, kids, and school admins ordering that Sodexo garbage wouldn't know a healthy meal if they saw it.
