A few questions:

Can you make muscle gains while long term water /fast/ing? i.e. 48-96 hours at a time. Can your muscles still repair themselves in a fasted state? I'm on a huge cut and when I get down to low bf% I would prefer to have muscle and not just be a lanklet.

How long does it take from your experience to get a decent amount of muscle (even noob gains)?

What is the best program to get on for general muscle building. I'm kind of a noob.

>Can you make muscle gains while long term water /fast/ing?

No.

>i.e. 48-96 hours at a time.

Still no, but life is surprising sometimes. For you personally, no.

>Can your muscles still repair themselves in a fasted state?

Yes, by eating surrounding tissues, such as your other muscles, bones, organs, and skin. So if this is just another way to ask if gains can be made during fasting, the answer is still no.

>How long does it take from your experience to get a decent amount of muscle (even noob gains)?

The answer awaits you as soon as you get your noob gains.

>What is the best program to get on for general muscle building. I'm kind of a noob.

The general muscle building program.

>Not drinking water for 3 days

Are you applying for the Darwin-awards? It's close to what the body can handle, it's not very healthy at all, could lead to complications.

Water fasting means you cut out everything except for water. The term is to distinguish between other fasts like juice fast or base fast (alkalized food) etc.

Not to contradict your meme response too hard, but consider new research as of 2016 in the field of autophagy.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/10/03/world/japanese-microbiologist-yoshinori-ohsumi-wins-nobel-prize-in-medicine-for-autophagy-research/#.WoHt5SXwa70

I learned about the subject from pro cyclist adam hansen ( who has a WR for most consecutive grand tours ) He mentioned that after the tours he would use fasting in combination with this autophagy principle to "clean up" his cells from all the waste products.

That really desrcibes the effects of fasting the best: its a way of cleaning yourself up but not nessecarily beneficial if you are otherwise healthy and there is nothing to clean up.

Do us all a favor an read OP's post again, and pay close attention to how it was phrased and the context in which the questions were asked this time. "Long term fasting" could mean a million things, and so we find that we are all blessed to have OP-sama descend from his heavenly abode and shine but one of his rays of light from his ethereal celestial glory in order to illuminate our willing spirits in spite of our weak flesh with "48-96 hours at a time" as a specific example.

Well, anyways, I'm not one that religiously adheres to a black and white world of impossible/possible distinctions, but 2-4 days of nothing but water (at what frequency? once a week? once a year?) on a regular basis and still somehow gaining muscle in the end is clearly some kind of wizardry that a clueless noob has no business entertaining, especially if he can't be bothered to fully elaborate his question. The way the question so ambiguously described a fasting strategy meant that it did not deserve a detailed answer and that the one asking would likely not be helped by any notion of fasting being a good thing.

Autophagy is hardly relevant to this thread, but the earlier response referred to general catabolism in admitting that muscles can repair themselves somewhat in the middle of a fast, normally at great expense to the rest of the body and unused muscles. Seeing as how reference to catabolism was already made, I don't see how autophagy, or cells eating themselves, adds to the discussion. It probably confuses poor OP. What would be relevant is a link to a study with a 2-4 day fasting protocol that worked in favor of building muscle. Did the cyclist also activate all his almonds, count the number of angels dancing on the head of a needle, and summon demons to fly out of his nose right before checking to see if his cells were "clean"?

A year of bulking will get you acceptable gains.
