So lads, is a dozen bench reps/nine squats with 70kg/154 lb good for a beginner? I've had a gym membership for a while but I'm pretty lazy with this stuff and haven't gone much so I've cancelled my payments. But if I were actually good at this whole lifting business it might motivate me to actually stick with it for a while.

The bench is pretty good, squat is average. What you do the first time isn't always a good indicator of future progress though, lifting weights is one of the few things in life where the majority of your success is directly tied to the amount of work you put in.

You don't measure success by what you start with.
