ZOG always wins tbh

The big guy could just put the little guy in a bear hug and probably break every bone in his body.

Rugby by a mile. You underestimate how much size matters - it matters a lot.

Ive seen guys take down dudes twice their size in JJ. Granted it was sparing and you start on your knees.

I don't follow MMA at all so I'm out of the loop but isn't the smaller guy in this vid supposed to be a world class MMA fighter? I'm not impressed lol. Pretty sure I could take down that big clumsy oaf.

It doesn't take a genius to see that they're not properly fighting.

If instead of bjj the guy knew kung fu (five animals) this wouldn't even be a question

 No.128034

BJJ only wins when weapons, head impacts, knee to the face, eye gouges, nut grabs, or arm bars are forbidden. On a padded mat.

It's literally a fighting style made for UFC, it can't work anywhere else. In real life if a tiny retard climbs on me the only thing I have to do is fall on a curb and break his back. It's retarded.

 No.128045

The big guy. There's simply no competition. The answer would be even more obvious if the big guy were to take some rudimentary hand-to-hand training.

Not that easy, but BJJ is one of those things that need to be complemented with other disciplines, otherwise it's a bit lacking.

Macgregor was getting serious just to keep up with the Mountain fooling around. He would die in a real fight.

 No.128444

BJJ is fast track to cauliflower ear. Even using headgear people get it. Once the tissue in your ears are fucked, it's too late. You have to drain it regularly then because it builds up. If you give zero fucks, it'll pop when you get hit or something rubs on it during grappling for instance.

There was a guy in MMA who that happened to. I don't remember his name. At that point, his ear was shaped more like a lump of flesh. It looked like some kind of strange wrinkly fruit. When it popped, blood was everywhere.

It's better to pick something with striking like boxing, kickboxing, muay thai or something like that. BJJ is good if the fight goes to the ground, but if you're fighting more than one person, which is always the case with nonwhites, you're FUCKED if it even gets to the ground.

Spar regularly and get your conditioning up. Learn your reach and train your muscle memory. In a real life situation you want to strike and then GTFO. BJJ will get you killed.

BJJ is only effective under about 100 rules and regulations.

 No.128494

>>128483

Explain how it's not effective otherwise, without pretending that the person doing the BJJ can't fight dirty in a life and death situation.

 No.128541

BJJ is largely a sport these days; useful in a fight, but limited. I imagine the bigger guy would win in a no-rules street fight.

Learn a martial science like krav maga or san soo. Size doesn't protect you from having your eyes pulled out or your seeds smashed.

BJJ got popular thanks to MMA, whose rules heavily favor it. From the length of the rounds, intended to make submissions likelier, to the shape of the cage, intended to provide a hard surface against which fighters can clinch, to the shape of the gloves, designed to grapple, to absurd rules such as prohibiting knees to a grounded opponent or soccer kicks, intended to make it less dangerous to take a fight to the ground, etc.

Even then, a fight ends in a submission only about 20% of the time. And in the vast majority of cases the submission only becomes possible after the opponent has been softened up by striking.

And that's the case even when MMA attracts the world's top grappling talent, but only second tier strikers, top tier strikers compete in boxing or kickboxing. There's no viable grappling promotion.

BJJ is not bad per se, and may even come handy under some circumstances, but striking is king.

Forgot to mention judging also favors grapplers, a take down receives an inordinate amount of weight in scorecards, and meaningless shit such as top control is interpreted as being winning. The result is that a fighter can get beat down for 4 minutes, get a take down, stall the fight on the ground for the last minute and be awarded a 10-9 by the judges.

 No.128570

>>128547

look up ufc 1. basically no rules and BJJ dominated. against someone who doesnt grapple, grappling is basically a guaranteed win. realistically, you should be proficient at striking and grappling. and carry a gun.

Just look up UFC 1 like has been said before, dumdum. All these rules are the only thing preventing grapplers to just wrestlefuck or submit everyone.

UFC 1, as all early UFC events, was organized by the Gracie family to promote their brand of jujitsu and featured handpicked fighters. It also only had 8 fighters in total. No valid conclusion can be drawn from such a show.

Fortunately we don't have to rely on a single event from 25 years ago, as we have extensive stats from hundreds of MMA events since then. And BJJ is most definitely not dominant. Most records in the UFC are not held by BJJ practitioners.

As of right now, there's not a single champion in the UFC with a BJJ background:

Stipe Miocic (HW): Boxing (Golden Gloves champion) and wrestling (NCAA Division I wrestler at Cleveland State)

Daniel Cormier (LHW): Wrestling, both Olympic Freestyle Wrestling (2004 Olympic Team) and NCAA Division I Wrestling at Oklahoma State University

Michael Bisping (MW): Former two-times Pro British light heavyweight Kickboxing champion

Tyron Woodley (WW): Wrestling (NCAA Division I Wrestling at University of Missouri) also known for his boxing skills

Conor McGregor (LW): Boxing (Pro record: 0-1)

Max Holloway (FW): No competitive background outside MMA, best known for his Muay Thai. Out of his 18 pro wins, only 2 have been submissions.

Cody Garbrandt (BW): Boxer (Amateur record: 32-1) and High School wrestler.

Demetrious Johnson (FlW): No competitive background outside MMA, High School wrestler, best known for his freestyle and catch wresting skills.

Most Finishes

Here BJJ is better represented, but notice KOs are still way more common than submissions even among BJJ practitioners.

All these posts ignore non-USA focused leagues. I'd put Fedor Emelianenko above anyone mentioned, and he fought with less restrictive rules.

 No.128631

>>128626

True, I only cited UFC stats because a couple of guys brought up UFC 1. Striking is king in every promotion.

Fedor is not a BJJ practitioner, he competed both in sambo and judo before focusing on MMA. He is considered one of the best strikers in MMA ever:

 No.128656

>>128631

He's primarily a sambist/judoka, but his striking is considered to be some of the best. I'd probably say judo is a grappling art though. He mainly wins by submissions and ground and pound which he achieves via grappling/throwing. Fighting is multi-faceted, striking vs grappling is a flawed argument.
