We continue to feature notable recent releases with this giallo-inspired film, the second such feature from the Belgian/French directing partners Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani.

> It's a confrontational fever dream film told from constantly shifting perspectives, and a chilly, dizzying trip into a genre defined by violently conflicting emotions. ~~ Simon Abrams, RogerEbert.com

> The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears isn’t something meant to be causally viewed, sure to overwhelm those who don't understand what's about to come. It’s specialized cinema … charging forward with a kaleidoscopic presentation that carries confidently and ghoulishly from beginning to end. Just relax and allow the directors to guide the experience, as any resistance will surely lead to a rejection of the whole endeavor. ~~ Brian Orndorf, Blu-Ray.com

I'd like to call your attention to the board's RSS feed (https://8ch.net/film/index.rss) which can be used to conveniently monitor the activity here. I wish it was a feed of recent posts, but for now it's a feed of most recently active threads. If you add it as a Live Bookmark you should be able to view the feed as a dropdown list in your Bookmarks Toolbar.

Also the 8chan posting form has been redesigned, but I disabled most of the clutter (until it gets changed again…).

I like all of their musical selections from vintage Italian soundtracks but I'd prefer to see them work with contemporary artists who share the same cinematic influences. Then their neogiallo films would have neogiallo music.

Umberto stands out as someone who would be a great fit. He's obviously heard loads of of Goblin.

I finally watched this last night. Somehow I had the impression that it wasn't very good but I ended up enjoying it, even more than Amer.
They still seem to prefer the short film structure, which I've noticed in their past work. However I think they were successful in using the short film format to tell a feature-length story.

They mentioned in an interview that De Palma was a huge inspiration, they even mentioned him before they mentioned giallo. I'm all for that. The film's great.

I didn't see that but the De Palma connection makes a lot of sense.

I've searched high and low for a working torrent for this, and all I found is a version without subtitles

Could anyone upload it to mega or something

There are probably better rips now that the BD is out, but here's a WebDL with hardcoded subs.

And of course, they just had to censor the poster on Netflix.

Excuse me for being somewhat new to /film/, I am by no means a film buff. I just watched through The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears. Here are some thoughts.

The movie has its own visual style, that is unmistakable. The overabundance of red light, mixed in with green or kaleidoscope of mixed coloration make it visually interesting for the most part. The scene where Dan is fighting with himself in his apartment, with the light continually changing from green to red on his eyes suggested to me "stop and go", as he is struggling with himself over the realization of his wifes death.

Early on when riding in the car and the car window is framed perfectly with the red light district window looked amazing as well. Red throughout the film associated with sex and blood. The blood looked surreal itself, not acting like blood, and the characters did not act towards blood as one would expect.

On the story, it is up to much interpretation so there is no one right answer. What I got out of it was that Laura was the key, either a woman with a split personality that was a murderer, or perhaps the first victim of a murderer. The 7 being an upside down L was something I did not get until they spoonfed me the three part screen where they were side by side. I do not think Dan murdered his wife, I think that most likely the murderer killed Laura first using the tunnels, and after the initial killing of what I would assume to be his love, he continues to kill in her name.

One of the major symbols in the film, especially in the second half was menstruation. Not just the ending, but the pads covered in blood symbolize periods, typically associated with a loss of innocence.

Thoughts? It was ok. Nothing I could recommend to anybody, but still more of an "experience". I will forget about this movie sooner than the creators hoped however.

Welcome aboard and thanks for sharing your reaction. Have you seen other giallo films?

For me the blue green and red are so connected to Suspiria/Argento I'm almost too distracted to think about the other purposes of these recurring colours. I guess that's a problem when a film has so many references to other works.

No I haven't, I just saw the Film Club, downloaded it and watched it. Any good recommendations? What do you think of Deep Red or The Girl With the Crystal Plumage?

Deep Red and The Bird With the Crystal Plumage ;) are both pretty good. Without saying too much, both of them have a ingenious way of hiding the mystery. But I watched the extended director's cut of Deep Red and thought the extra scenes were unnecessary.

Some other gialli I'd recommend are Tenebrae (for another Argento), Blood and Black Lace (the first giallo, more or less), Bay of Blood (first slasher film), The Fifth Cord (police procedural), Delirio Caldo, Cosa avete fatto a Solange?, Sette Note in Nero, Black Belly of the Tarantula, and Death Lays an Egg (a weird one).

The fun of these movies is in the cool music and cinematography. The writing can be somewhat silly.
