IMPORTANT

Sturmgarde Imperium, which never posted and has no map position, will go inactive tomorrow. Does anyone mind if I go ahead and place them in my vicinity, with plans to take them over? They've got a fairly similar concept so it'd be real nice to fold their lightning forge in with my general metal theme. I've got a thing for giants, as you may know…

Greenskins will go inactive on 7/26. I'm assuming Korlick will want them for the Hegemony.

Demoncratic Bureau will go inactive on 7/27. Tyrans will dominate~.

I won't hide I never liked that rule, but this doesn't change the fact it is a rule. Honestly I don't care who takes over this or that civ, especially one who never posted a single action, so as far as I'm concerned feel free to go ahead.

I'm quite sad about the demons, they wrote a lot of stuff after all. I hope they come back in time.

What about revelers-festival? I don't think I ever saw a post by them either.

Mermaids and slug-girls, please write something!

I'm going to post on their behalf asking for leniency, since something really really shitty just came up for them that I'm not at liberty to speak about.

 No.84660

There's recourse for people who get conquered, with or without player protection. All the 21-days rule means is that they've left their stuff for so long that it makes sense for other people to pick up their pieces and move the world along.

For the giants, eh, they were never really in the game to begin with, but they're cool so I wanna keep them. Demons could sit around for a long time, if Growth doesn't decide to snap them up. The Revelers are so far away that it doesn't make sense for anyone to nab them even if they do fall out.

 No.84662

>something really really shitty just came up for them

And that's precisely the reason I dislike that take-over rule. I personally vote for leaving them all the time required to solve their issue, be it 20 days or 3 months.

This. It makes me happy.

I'm sorry to bring this up, but in the rules it's stated that: "This protection applies to inactive players and their characters." Third point in the "Special Rule: Named Character Protection" section.

Yeah my write up also implies Queen Durga escaped, so if Greenskin comes back she can lead another horde.

Also you may want to put one last link in the previous thread in case there is anyone still checking that instead of the catalog for updates.

 No.84915

>>84909

Checked this out, and you're absolutely correct. The reason I made this mistake is that back in the old game, a couple people left me their civs including the named characters when they decided to go inactive. So I accidentally conflated "inactive" with the bit about "waiving protection".

This being the case, I'll go ahead and give Korlick a free Unit to replace [Queen Durga], which he otherwise would have been able to use freely.

 No.85152

Giving a little thought to making absent players vulnerable, what exact purpose does it serve?

As far as I can tell, if a player poofs they don't really do anything to hold up the game aside from failing to respond to a war action made against them. A variety of other interactions would remain available, like creating trade routes which doesn't demand target cooperation. Which means the contributions can continue to remain in-game.

In the case of unanswered war actions, I 'd see it as more reasonable to retcon the action and refund the points spent.

>2lewd don't help with action posts, only R4Ps. This is prevent certain me's from making every action vaguely sexual, reaping the benefits of rampant sluttery to game-breaking effect.

But that's exactly the kind of behavior that should be rewarded.

 No.85184

>>85183

Lewds should never be forced, and that's what it would do to have an opponent churning out lewd stuff to have a mechanical advantage over you at every turn. So someone doing cool, interesting, but non-sexual worldbuilding would effectively be punished for not being a slut. And slutting is a choice. The best choice, sure, but a choice nonetheless.

 No.85185

>>85182

Thanks, but I know that rule. I meant that Pally's post qualified for lewd in my opinion and I was suggesting them to get a kudo for it. I know kudos don't help at all with rolls, but it seemed well-deserved. They didn't invoke the rule so it's already too late, I was mostly encouraging them to do it if they post another similar action.

I know I can give kudos to people too, but I decided to give out mine when certain conditions are met and I'll stand by my decision. I wouldn't have enough kudos for every post I like, after all.

>>85183

Growf is right, the current rules are fine. Getting kudos to spend on posts you like is a good reward by itself, you can become civbuddy with your favorite writer and hopefully exchange interactions and stuff, getting some free points at the same time.

Nodoby should be forced to make a slutty civ to be "competitive" if they don't want to, there are many ways of being sexy.

If you think about it, writing a good sex scene will also give you a lot of help to reach the 2k rule, which is actually what most really love to see. Rather than encouraging random cheap lewds, it encourages well-written ones. And I love well-written lewds.

 No.85219

>>85152

If you don't want to conquer them, then it's business as usual. Basically, the assumption is that if someone is gone for 21 days without saying anything, they've probably flaked out. That's just how things go. If you want to do trade routes and peace, there's nothing stopping you, and you can even do hybrids with their race to give you some Racial Lore Control without taking them over.

The thing about letting them be conquered is so the world can move on. Conquer/defense is the only contested roll in the game, and since they're inactive they forfeit their chance to Defend. Our other option is to make it so that inactive civs are invincible despite whatever is happening in the world around them. Civs which are completely conquered turn their Racial Lore over to the conquering player (which means that Korlick currently owns the Durgans).

Also note that if a player returns to find their civs conquered by another player, all they have to do is make a Rebellion post and they get all their stuff back, as long as they have been a Vassal for less than 14 days (counting from the last relevant Conquer action). So at this point, Greenskin can come back and, at no cost, reclaim all their stuff from Korlick and get in with the playing. If 14 days pass, then Greenskin can reenter the game as the Durgans somewhere else, with the same points, or start a new civ/race with the old points carrying over.

Okay then, the complications one it is

>Ultimately, at least in Dia’kne, the chemists met with the most success. Dubbed “Tabbin Sand”, named after its creator, it found use with all the other branches of the labor caste. Smiths could smelt the sand into ingots for themselves while alchemists ground the sand into their powders for their paste, which in turn found application with many other castes across the city.

>Unfortunately is also had a side effect among Dian'dre males. Inhaling the fumes or coming into contact with the stuff would turn them into sex-hungry predators, uncaring who their victims were so long as they could sink their tools into a warm hole. The streets would be plagued with feral males stalking alleys and abducting civilians to rape to near exhaustion, the only sign of their presence being a large puddle of sexual fluids. Any attempts to put the sand to applicable use were slowed to a grind as there needed to be a way to transport the sand without males getting a whiff of it.

>First Town:

>First Advantage: (Tech, Defense, Unit)

Tech - Variations of the artifacts they use have proven to be useful for other cultures.

>First Commodity Spring:

Sleeper Urns. A variation of the ones they use for their own people, they craft small urns that can keep a single person in stasis for a limited time. While they need to be specially attuned to the person, they are very useful to transport people unnoticed or in a compact container. On the battlefield they can be used to carry out wounded safely through long distances, and of course, they are very handy on kidnappings.

Brief Summary:

Smoke spirits that can take solid shape from absorbing energy. Once in solid shape they need to absorb more energy to sustain that form or else they would revert into smoke again. Without any means to absorb energy they are as ineffectual as a cloud of dust. The most powerful magicians of this race can exchange "wishes" for vital energy, but these so-called wishes are limited by the inherent magical skill of the particular genie.

A fairly parasitic race, their culture is based on all kinds of trade, the slave trade being an easy way to get vital energy. However they have a big commodity trade, since they enjoy all kinds of luxuries. Their memories slowly fade while in smoke form, unless they enact a ritual to trap their selves on lamps or rings, which preserves them in something akin to magical sleep.

>Success! The resistance the Nightguard offered was token at best, mostly parting aside in an act that could be seen as either cowardly or prudent, depending on who you were allied with at the moment. As with all things, the soldiers of the Order proved excessively disciplined, and only a few incidents of unplanned vandalism and assault occurred during their quick occupation. Quickly-delivered and brutal punishment of the single group of soldiers who had taken it upon themselves to also liberate a rich gemstone merchant's store curbed most all of that. The occupying men were of a single mission - to free every shackled man, woman, and dog of Nightspire. The numerous secret tunnels and hidden vestiges of Nightspire made this an impossible task, but the good soldiers of the Order tried their best. For nearly two days, they turned over practically every cobblestone of the city, gathering and organizing as many unwilling residents, hopeful urchins and dazed will-slaves as they could, leaving with over seven thousand more dazed, rag-clad freemen than they had come in with. A painful dent in Nightspire's slave industry, but not even a full quarter of their total, unfortunately. Still, the fact remained that the Armies of the Order walked triumphantly back to Himmelknteve with over twice as many men as they walked from it with, many of whom were skilled crafters, miners, and workermen, and all very eager to prove themselves to their new saviors.

>More importantly, the Order had proved itself capable and made its mark on the world as a rising power, one that championed justice and freedom for all, seeking a stronger world with stronger individuals, and people would notice. They'd receive as many recruits as they'd rescued in the coming months, no doubt about it. After all, lands that looked only at the value of one's actions were rare enough, much less ones that had purpose.

>Action: Remove Disadvantage [Glutted Market] from Irontown.

After assorted attempts to streamline Irontown's production, shift labor to problematic areas, and simply shut down unnecessary operations by Overseer fiat, the issue still remained: there were too many raw materials, too many finished products, and neither enough hands to process the former nor enough recipients for the latter. Every grown Ironborn man has replaced his arms and armor, the fields are thick with slag and lime, and no home in the Ironlands goes for want of cookware. Even with all their time-honored traditions of efficiency and productivity, there was simply no historical precedent for having 'too much'. Of anything, except maybe rocks.

It was Omen Tall-Heart who offered a solution, in what was becoming his familiar bluff and straightforward style. "Why don't we just sell the stuff to some other tribe?"

Not that it could be that simple of course, but once the stunned silence faded away and the half-hearted protests about 'arming potential enemies' and 'getting robbed by foreigners' followed suit, a plan was laid out. Expeditions would be formed and sent out to carry goods to the nearest tribes, notably those of plain and desert; with luck and some smooth talk, arrangements would be made for mutual trade and further pacts of friendship. Overseer Malk also pointed out that it was an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about whatever peoples might exist outside the Ironlands, particularly those which might be a threat to Irontown… or a potential target.

This is not reassuring. That execution from the other time already triggered me. Is it can be hugs and kisses tiem nao pleez? Joking of course, but please tag those. Think of your readers' coronaries.

My problem is that smut is lovely and fun, but I don't want to throw it in without a reason. On the other hand story and character progression are much harder to write, but that's the the stuff that advances the tale.

I'm also too hard on myself and aim for lengthy, carefully-written actions even though I lack the skill and mostly fail miserably, but trying is still the only way to get better.

>Action : Advance City: Ko'kne

>Commodities: Fire Powder, Blood Emeralds

As Dia’kne boasted its newfound Tabbin Sand, Ko’kne was hard at work finding other ways to exploit the blood emerald glut. Having powder was all well and good but unless something was done with it, it just filled up space and sent males into a rutting frenzy. A new means of using the emeralds had to be discovered or Ko’kne would find itself sitting on tons of useless red rocks.

In a small smithery patched away in some corner of the industrial quarter, that new discovery was made. By folding the reddened ingots into iron, smiths created what they called “Qua’kcien Ro’dai Ce” or “Qua’ro Ce” for short. Directly translating to ‘Molten hot but cool steel’ and ‘Hot-Cold steel’ respectively, the appearance matches the odd name. The new metal, normally doesn’t look any different from regular hardened steel, but in the presence of magic begins to glow, giving it the appearance of being molten hot, yet still cool to the touch. Tests with weapons made of Qua’ro Ce have shown them capable of cutting just as deep as regular steel weaponry, but when ‘charged’ so they glow, the blade suddenly cuts much deeper, biting further and further into its target until the magic is spent and the metal goes dark.

Armor likewise, rebuffs attacks that normally would puncture steel armor, leaving a noticeable dent, but still holding otherwise. Before long, Qua’ro ingots were distributed throughout the city, as warriors and guard patrols alike fitted themselves with the superior metal.

Nope, I gave you a Kudos on that Action. And you just got another from Pally, so your total is now 13.

I am also fine with 'banking spares' from RemDis actions with the 2k rule, for now. Historically, removing disadvantages is something of an annoyance, and I'd rather folks just went along and got along. However, everyone should remember that RemDis only requires 100~ words, and you can also do a Festival for the [Morale Boost x1]. I would prefer people do that, since it encourages trade and interaction.

Having a [Contingency Plan x1] does work, but I'd like to keep it to a minimum, since it makes it possible for someone to remove a disadvantage without actually showing how their civ overcomes adversity and solves problems.

Dear Jesus, see me through this. More than tempted to join up if you nerds don't mind taking me along for the ride seeing as I haven't done any real, proper writing in a long ass time. Is there a general unspoken rule regarding the ratio of lewds to fluff that I somehow missed in the Doc?

I'm having trouble knowing what I have access to through trade routes, since Himmelknyteve has other routes and it's a chore to open every civ's details to find the one with a connected location.

Can you make a list of locations and who owns them somewhere, Or a list of civs with the owned locations?

My first Idea was listing the civ behind trade routes, but that would be a headache to keep up to date.

So I've been working on something, if there's something weird I'd be happy if I could request your help?

Civ Name: Golden Winds/ Quriwayra (In the language of the old)

First Race: Avian

First Town: Comfortable Sun / kusikoqinti(In the language of the old)

Town Type: Town

Government: Monarchy

First Advantage:

One with the land (Tech)- The spirits that dwell in the plants favors the birds, whispering the secrets of the land and guiding their hands in the proper way. Or so the story goes around a book that has become the guideline for any bird that attempts their hand at farming or at least, tending to the plants. It contains vital information

First Commodity Spring: Suri is the name of the richest of worm that inhabit mainly the mountains of kusikoqinti. Their nutritious value surpasses even the common chicken and are so packed with energy elders who wish to make their junk work eat three of these in order to regain some of their youth, for at least one night.

Brief Summary:

The land of the birds resides in the very middle of powerful mountains that oversee their everyday, a small town with nothing to offer but a bare and wrinkled past. Escaping the tyranny of an evil hawk, their ancestors found this place and built a small something in a patch that had been shown to them by a celestial being.

Also I think I can roll, right? Here's my first post, hope you all enjoy it. Because this is my first I can still roll for points, right? If not, please ignore the dice result.

 No.91490

Wow, was the old game like this? And here I thought this game re-emerging was going to kill the game I was running.

And I don't even know what to suggest to fix it. I partially blame how the second die encourages long write-ups that people try to build up for every action and then promptly get worn out.

Maybe a way of tightening the interaction outside of war? Or maybe throw weekly events in?

Maybe win conditions after all, with all sets including a certain number of "historical relevance" points, which you primarily get when other civs interact with you.

 No.91501

>>91490

The old game was quite like this, except that we had a slightly larger core of active players, and more in-and-out movement of players over time. I'm not that concerned.

Weekly events might help, but I think Korlick might be doing even better by setting himself up as the Evil Empire of RapeTigers(tm). I'm not the best at them, though I might crib some ideas from the old game. If anyone else would like to discuss the possibility, I have no problem there.

Inter-civ actions are largely up to the players. The framework is there for them to interact, and it is incentivised. Any suggestions here would be most welcome.

The single greatest problem is that not enough people are posting. It's one of those "spend money to make money" dilemmas. I'm working on a post now which should rescue myself and the Moln from falling under the Dian yoke, at least in the short term.

 No.95450

Almost a week and nothing.

Weekly event?

 No.95490

I think we're looking at an incentive problem. being so free-form people take their time, and end up dropping in that time. Loss if your civ only happens if other active players decide to take your sites, and even after long inactivity it feels rude to do so, especially if the target has only one site.

Two ideas I have for weekly events are: A thing happens. First one to make an action about it gets a reward. Like a storm happens and first one to mention it gets ancient tools x3

Alternately, the same idea, but it's a weekly raffle only for players who have posted in the past eight days.

 No.95589

>>95490

I'm up for either so long as it gets posts in the thread.

 No.95603

>>95490

The first game had events, usually an objective that would give a reward to the person who did what was required, or to the person who rolled the highest on their post. Biweekly or monthly changes in the status quo could keep things interesting.

 No.95632

>>95490

From my standpoint, it's just difficult to put time into worldbuilding from a narrow, singular perspective when the world only have four living factions left in it. There's a certain point where people have dropped off and the world doesn't feel very vibrant anymore.

 No.95633

>>95632

That's the catch, really.

Low amount of people posting means the few people who are become less motivated to post, less people join to replace those who left, and the game peters out.

 No.127030

So this died. Again. I'm going to re-suggest win conditions. Again, the benefits in mind are:

Gives the game something to build to keep the excitement level up.

Regularly ends the game for a fresh start.

Granted, it makes joining late less appealing, unless a major juggernaut quits or something. And it does eventually cut off everyone from doing things in the setting. But just maybe it will keep the game fresh and rolling instead of these die-offs that chug to a halt.

To win, a civ would need to meet a set of conditions. The conditions should be designed such that they force a civ to interact to win, and that winning takes time.

I'm thinking a sets that have variations of the following three:

A count condition, requiring that X number of something be done/happen by the civ in question. This ensures that nobody can win early in the game in a small world.

A Percent condition. Establishing dominance in some arena. I'm thinking 60%. For conquest, that means owning 60% of locations, for economics it means perhaps having a majority of trade routes.

Finally a NOT condition, meaning you have to avoid something and narrow your approach, at least towards the end. IF you're aiming for economic victory for example, you can't have any "recent" military aggression or something.

Last Idea I had to add was to suggest three win condition sets, going with the spore civ set. Military, Economic, Religious.

No idea how religious would work, but I'd say it has to do with wonders and ruins.

So…I don't actually want to compete with people all that much. And I don't really like the idea of having to start over every X months because someone else built the spaceship to Alpha Centauri. Also the posts I actually read were from the people who posted less, not more. I didn't give a hoot about Orcs in the first game tbh. People determined to win would be determined to win within the boundaries of the ruleset, not determined to produce quality content in order to achieve that win.

But I'm a faggot and stopped posting last game, so whatev. Maybe there are some folks out there who want to play are more focused version.

 No.127097

>>127081

Well, there's nothing saying we can't do both and have the threads point to eachother.

This round was called Endless Erotica, so maybe re-launch with sister threads. Endless Erotica 2 and Ero-Empire Competition Edition.

Or can we just sort of start playing again? Who was DMing this? are they still around? Can we just pick it back up again?

Oh so there are others that still check this thread.

I was just gonna call this over and wrap it up with an endgame write up more for myself (because my civ was the notMongorian Horde it was basically conquering everyone afk) than anything, I don't like to leave a game unfinished if I can help it.

Honestly it might be better to just scrap this and start anew with different conditions.

 No.129010

>>128990

Well if you relaunch it, I highly recommend doing something to keep players coming back on the regular. I think I heard weekly events were part of the original and lack of that may be why both of the revivals I've seen failed.

Maybe bi-weekly something happens and ideally all players make a write-up about it before the next event or something.

maybe roll a d4 to decide whether all participating players get a benefit, one player gets a prize based on speed and/or quality of response, or rarely failing to do a write-up at all causes a downside.

Sorry to ask this, but could you please leave my civ out of that finisher? I know you have no obligation of doing so but I'm asking as a personal favor.

I didn't speak until now to avoid drama, but I left because all con players vanished and I have strong personal issues with noncon. I couldn't take it anymore, sorry for ruining your fun.
