How much are you like your character? behavior, body language, expressions, actions wise. Are you as emotionally stimulating as your character?
Writing personalities and emotion is based on experience and supposedly your own behaviour. Most dumb people can only write dumb characters, namely brainless vapid sluts with no emotion in them or emotions so immature you cannot be invested in/believe them.

I wouldn't want to be a large majority of my characters. They're usually terrible people that do terrible things or enable terrible behavior and they'd be fucking insufferably in reality.
That's why I RP them. It's also why I don't have any interest in playing self-inserts.

A good chunk of my fucking characters have some sort of obsession with strength and power, which sorta relates to my personal complex of self-improvement and perfection. I wanna get better in a very broad sense, and just improve my crafts as far as they can go. My characters sorta have the same mentality except cranked up to fucking 11, with a lot more egotism and inhuman sex-drives. That's as far as I'd say it goes though. I used to only play shemales as a barrier to self-inserting as a guy, but at this point I'm willing to play males, shemales, and females from time to time.

My characters have almost nothing in common with me other than being attractive and socially competent.
I am an emotionless, cynical bastard IRL.
My characters range from dominant anthros that are extremely self-assured and take what they want, to feral rape-beasts and naive, weak bottom rape-bait fags.
Unlike me they're actually emotionally invested in their fates, seek out sexual encounters and seem alive. I certainly could make the case that they seem more believable than I actually am, which is funny to think about.

My characters are just tools for me to use to fulfill whatever weird RP I'm doing this time. I have no real attachment to them and enjoy making them suffer and making them make other people suffer.
This is probably because I have a low regard for myself but also because my ideas tend to be so varied if I inserted into each character that would limit their potential options.

They all want to do well by people and all have something they struggle with internally, usually made manifest through some physical condition. I'm totally a good writer who can write anything without just projecting myself onto my characters. Honest.

I take a masochistic pleasure from my characters suffering and my kinks are mostly noncon/dubcon, so my characters aren't into what I'm into and I wouldn't seriously like to be in their place apart from sexually.

My characters tend to have some things in common with me but really not too much. I would never want to be my characters–they tend to have shitty lives and live in conditions I would never want for myself.
I tend to play characters the same gender as me and they usually have some kinks in common with me, but a lot of my kinks are things they won't enjoy. I like having characters that I can relate to a little bit here and there, kinda like I would relate to a character in a book I decide to read.
I sometimes have an interest in common with a character, but usually so that I can give them somewhat authoritative dialog on the topic if they end up discussing it. I prefer to play characters who are way less experienced than me though and don't know too much about most things, so that there's room to roleplay them learning new things.

This probably applies to far more characters on F-List and in reality then you'd realize. Writers will often take parts of their own personality, even unknowingly, and crank it to 11.
I know I'm guilty of doing this with a particular partner; after awhile we kind of stopped really playing the characters and just slipped into more casual bants while playing.

None of my characters are self inserts per se, but all of my characters are a characteristic of mine amplified and turned into the main central aspect of their personality with all other aspects of them different. You could say that my characteristic is an inspiration for their character. This allows you to create multiple characters that seem entirely and utterly different but in the end their roots are within the writer. Is this a bad thing? I don't think so. Perhaps it's a 'cheap' way to make characters but because it only takes one aspect of your personality it still allows an extremely large range of characters. An example: You tend to get overexcited and overeager sexually -> The character tends to get overexcited and overeager sexually. Even if the way this trait manifests is entirely different and even if the character's personality is entirely different there's a link there. You might get….I don't know…shaky and stuttery or some cringy shit like that but the character might get pushy, eager, pressing their luck and asking for more and more. Both are excited, both are overeager, but the manifestation of that trait is different.
It's so far detached from you that it's not self inserting, but it's not entirely unique either. It's self inspiration.

My favorite character is only like me in that she's not very expressive and (seems) emotionally numb. We also share some notes on a moral compass, but she's way more extreme and fucked up in the head than me.

My primary character is a no-fun-allowed perfectionist who values their career and professionalism, but also fully recognizes they've peaked and that the only place left to go is down. And because they're absolutely terrified of sacrificing a single fraction of what little power they have (even if it did mean they could move on to bigger and better things), they've fought for and clung to the same dead-end job for years. This has twisted them into a spiteful, power-tripping monster who takes out their career frustrations on anyone they perceive as beneath them, while hoping that at some point one of them won't take any shit anymore and will forcibly drag them down from their high horse and ruin their professional (and possibly private) life so they'll finally feel like they've finally escaped the responsibility that traps them without having to actually face their fears.
As for how much of me is in them, it's a few of my worst traits, combined with some of my worst fears. None of this is really written on the character's profile either, so they just come across as a huge bitch in most scenes, which increases the chances of getting cockslapped into the gutter with no remorse or pity which is just how I like it.
As for physical similarities, none whatsoever.
