Yes that's pretty heavy. I once heard some zoomer remix with softer sadder beat (you know, from those 24/7 gaybeats radios) which was actually not bad at all but I lost the link and I wasn't able to find it again. I should go through my old rap collection, it's been a long time since I've heard some of that suff.

Assuming we have similar core criteria for what media can be classified as being doomer, there are plenty of records with powerlevels outclassing anything by created The Smiths. This is not to say The Smiths as a band or their music should be discounted, but I don't see how any of their music exhibits doomer qualities to a significant degree. For any fundamental element of the 'doomer experience', I can think of at least a few albums which more accurately express and personify said element.

Would you like music addressing the shameful autocannibalization resulting from acute self awareness coupled with a lack of energy/willpower to utilize this awareness for personal growth? The constant, muted despair of knowing you are powerless to affect any significant and lasting change on the world? The slow process of hope extinguishing in the face of inertia, futility, consuming hatred of human nature, and self loathing? Cold dissociation from the utterly contemptible, man-made construct we must survive in daily? Xasthur, Codeine, Primitive Man and Leviathan have all released albums exploring these subjects in further depth. Vid related also revolves around the aforementioned topics.

Good choice. This board has a few posters who are genuinely knowledgeable regarding extreme music, it's nice. The feeling I get lurking these music threads is a kind of comfy I haven't experienced in a while. I give it another few months at most before normalniggers crowd out the seasoned musicfags.

In terms of an entire ALBUM, this would have to be my contender:

King Crimson, "In the Court of the Crimson King".

"…I'm on the outside looking inside

Much confusion, disillusion

A dream of another existence

You wish to die

A dream of another world

You pray for death to release the soul

One must die to find peace inside

You must get eternal

I am a mortal, but am I human?

How beautiful life is now when my time has come

A human destiny, but nothing human inside

What will be left of me when I'm dead?

There was nothing when I lived

What you found was eternal death

No one will ever miss you

I will name on and that is Biosphere - substrata, it’s ambient music from Geir Jenssen, a Norwegian musician. I think this album is pretty hard too summarise but if i would describe it with a few words it would be cold, rainy and dark. But not dark in that sense of way, it’s more organic nature like. Like something you would listen on, looking out on a rainy nightsky from a small cabin in the wood or a high rising appartement complex. It simply fits boths and that is why i think it’s worth listening too.

I have an insufflated heroin habit, rarely do I get the bursts of energy and ability to socialize from it anymore so I mostly listen to mopey shit while on it. The last bit from "The Figurehead" is particularly distressing for me, and worse when doped up, you know, the "I will never be clean again" section. Every line in the whole song has meaning to me, but nothing else drives it home like that last part. But at this point it's nothing but a dull reminder, I've lost control of my life anyway.

I haven't OD'd yet, and I hope I never do, but if there was a record for that, this would be it. The Smiths' The Queen is Dead would be fitting as well, but I find "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" to be too sappy musically, especially when it hits the chorus, I'd rather the music to be as dismal as the lyrics portray it to be, which is why I prefer Pornography.

[blogpost]It's been said a man dies when his memory is forgotten, makes me wonder if I'd already be dead if it wasn't for my close family, and even if I do escape this hole and find some semblance of happiness before I die, will I be forgotten then?[/blogpost]

I adore Pornography, though some days I feel Disintegration is more apt. I'd honestly love to find more music that feels like Pornography, especially The Figurehead, that kind of slow, dirge-like melodic dissonance with those kinds of minor key progressions.

You know speaking of metal I see most extreme stuff get posted around, but rarely do I find people posting older stuff or less extreme stuff, there was a guy a while back that posted NWOBHM like Satan and Tank in the music thread, seems to have deleted his posts. I agreed with the sentiment that those bands can be doomer too, if only for the overblown theatrical dynamics in 80's metal that it portrayed emotions and such. Most of them are in minor keys as well, which are sadder than major key. I find this song to be pretty doomer imo, with it's disillusionment with love in general.

Lycia uses melodies with dissonant harmonies at dirge like tempos as a staple, albeit with more synths. While I'm not personally into less extreme metal, I understand the desire to listen to music that is boundary pushing yet doesn't take itself too seriously sometimes. Pigfuck and noise rock fill that niche for me because they're what I listened to as a teenager, but it's the same niche.

Does anyone else here make music?

 No.9865>>9878

This is really fucking good, thanks anon. I make music but it's mostly melodic crossover thrash with pseudo rightwing lyrics, think Carnivore's second album, Retaliation, which is kinda tame for your average fullchanner but would drive most leftists (which is the majority of the punk scene and to a lesser extent, metal scene) into rage or sarcastic yet still mad "yikes", "wow calm your edge" style comments. Musically speaking it's basically Iron Maiden styled punk riffs played really really fast, not exactly depressing. About 70% of lyrics are in spanish, some english, though I haven't sung much. I've got some demos lying around but I'm not exactly comfortable spreading them due to anonymity issues, would rather do it in a faster moving thread in halfchan's /mu/ for example, and with the state of that board it'd probably get ignored or derided, one or both.

I see what you mean, I feel it's because like I mentioned, most of this 80's metal was composed in minor key, and minor key is sad, and even if the tempo or the energy of it is supposed to pump you up or make you happy, the base of it is still based on sad music. Leads within this kind of metal are also based on blues, just a lot more meedly meedly than blues. The guitars still cry in the bends, just like in blues. The speed just makes it sound more desperate.

Take this song for example.

Also thanks for >>9881, I can't believe I'd never heard that band before, it reminded me of vid related.

You said it really well. Because I'm not native speaker or maybe for some other reason, I don't know, I was not used to paying attention to english lyrics all that much when I listened to music. From certain point in life I actually started to listen to what they sing about and some lyrics in this type of music are also pretty fucking apocalyptic and have that doom/gloomy feel in them. If the singer do good job, it always makes me feel like I'm riding motorcycle on empty road straight to hell, while it feels so right, like it's soundtrack to ending titles of my life. Maybe cringe, I don't care, I can't describe feeling I get from this music. It's tragic but it feels so good.

All around me

In the air hangs a wreath

Of blackest bile, and smoke

That only I can see

I open up my heart

And let it all in

And it kills all my love

And hope for everyone

And it hasn't been easy on you

I know that more than most

I am born to be alone

I am just some lonely ghost

All around us

Hangs an air of darkest doom

And it flows out my lungs

And slowly fills the room

I open up my heart

And stick my fingers in

But you will never want

What I have to give

And it hasn't been easy on you

I know that more than most

I am born to be alone

I am just some lonely ghost

smiths and morrissey in particular were very good at appealing to a wide variety of doomers. its pop music, but for doomers, not the average target. and its something in particular that album that damn near every doomer has heard and, if not enjoyed, has been able to somewhat relate to at some point.

couldnt say its the "most doomer"

but perhaps, "most doomer accessible"

its a common denominator to a lot of doomers

if we were to look into other more niche stuff, we would undoubtedly find more intense doomer examples of music. but they likely wouldnt be doomer to all doomers. whereas, morissey was very obviously /ourguy/

Why is Norwegian black metal /doomer/? I've heard from BM guys that there's a certain sort of philosophy in the style, but they've never elaborated

 No.10163>>10166

>>10162

Norwegian BM has a mostly Nietzschean philosophy that strives to be superhuman. But on the other hand it is melancholic and mourn "What once was" ie old pre-christian Europe and its tradition.

 No.10166>>10167 >>10227 >>10290

>>10162

I don't know why norwegian BM should be more doomer than BM from other parts of world, f.e. Finland or Sweden. This is accurate: >>10163

However I rarely find in it melancholy or mourn "what once was". Norwegian BM started up in 90s mainly because death metal become joke, everybody said it, from varg, through euro to fenriz etc. Of course the focus on making something norwegian was there with certain artists/bands but with every "what once was" there was also a second part - "it can return". I don't think it was melancholic at all, with maybe exception of Burzum and few similar bands which came after it. Also a lot of bands in BM in past or now really don't need any strong message in their music. You have whole branch of BM focused purely on occult and middle ages fetish. If I compare Finnish bands and Norwegian bands, I really don't see how is one side less or more doomer than another. Also what was back in 90s is different from what it is now. This whole Nietzschean philosophy shifted away from main focus. What "sells" now is tradition, hope for the future, some natsoc ideas, etc. It seems to me BM become RAC, it's overly optimistic and cares too much.

I might add that if you want real doomer BM, then look to France. I don't know what happened there but there were tons of bands and artists who used "depressive" or dark, occult, "nietzchean" ideas, pushed them to extreme, while still focusing on rawness without becoming pussy shit DSBM.

I don't know much honestly because I lost my patience with the genre when it received post-blackmetal hipster influences. I'm elitist scumbag really when it comes to black metal, not trying to hide that, collecting rare 90s bands which released only 1 demo, blah blah. But all I remember about DSBM is this ugly muddy but yet overproduced repetitive sound. If you have some good stuff please post it.

>>10129

Have never heard of these guys as well, powerful stuff. Kind of a Manilla Road vibe with Iron Maiden instrumentation and Accept/Metallica riffing on the faster parts, very good shit. Here's vid related as one of my favorites.

>>10152

That's a fun way of putting it, he used a bunch of aliases throughout the years and generally tried having a "mysterious" aura about him but it kinda failed. Let it not be said they didn't carve out their own niche in the 80's though.

>>10153

This is an excellent way of putting it, thanks. For a long time I was more of a Cure guy, since I thought Morrissey and co. couldn't do something as massively depressing as Pornography or as melancholic as Disintegration, but I've gotten into a couple of tracks off The Queen is Dead, and I can really feel the /doomer/ vibes. Also Marr's riffing in Some Girls are Bigger than Others is really fucking good.

No problem, you should listen to Mysto Dysto then, they're the previous incarnation of Mandator, more melodic, trad/speed metal base, some things in this album would later translate into Mandator's first record (the opening of Full Speed to Hell and the breaks in Indenter), and some of the things on Mandator's first record are holdovers from Mysto Dysto (Black Rose, which I already posted, they did a faster version of Power of the Law in that album and Evil Dead has sections that belong on the Mysto Dysto album, slightly sped down of course). The rarity of this record is due to it originally being a private pressing, it got transferred from a high quality vinyl into CD a couple years back but even then it's still a bitch to find. A shame because this is a very good album, from track 1 - 6 it doesn't let up and has some really fucking cool parts, goes a bit flaccid after Indenter, but 3/4 of a killer record is still good in my book, especially when there's albums that only have 2 or 3 good songs.

>>10287

Thergothon is pretty cool, I like the demo more than the album, idk the production does more for me, it doesn't sound like an atmospheric mushy mess, instruments are more defined. I like Skepticism more though, same thing happened with them as well, the demo that came before the album had much clearer production.

>>10223

Boy do I feel this record is overrated, title track is fantastic and all but the rest just feels pedestrian, Mournful Cries was stronger overall concerning their Wino output. Die Healing is Vitus' best album objectively though.

Pure noise and power electronics are fairly niche. However, a lot of sludgier doom records from recent years have heavily incorporated power electronics. It's one of the more intriguing developments I've noticed since 2013 or so. I can enjoy pure power electronics occasionally, but I'm not as educated about the subject as extreme metal, so go ahead and post some. If i were to put this album in a genre it would be Arctic ambient, a subgenre of ambient. But this album it's unique, I have listen to a lot of ambient music but i have yet to discover someone like Geir Jenssen, but he have done at least 2-3 more albums in this genre. Biosphere - Cirque, came out 2000 is arctic and quite smooth, a bit more warmer. Second is Biosphere - Polar Sequences, released 1996 this album is a bit harder, its definitely colder, and has a soundscape of melting arctic water, deep sea and generally an arctic environment. Geir Jenssen - Cho Oyu 8201m kind of fits in this spectrum of music, all though it's not really as "cold" Biosphere - N-Plants is also worth looking at, this album is a bit more experimental and doesn't fit into the sub genre arctic ambient. Lastly Biosphere - Dawn at vara, this is a song that he played live i think, it's a bit more alp like where you can tell that Biospheres love for mountaineering shines through definitely worth listening to. You must also understand that the album Substrata is one of the absolutely best albums i have ever listened to, and believe i have dedicated years of my life listening to music. I only rarely listen to it when i go /out/ simply because i don't want to destroy the music and the memories i have with it. With that being said friend i wish you the best of luck and greetings from svearike

Through and Through by Life of Agony

I need some air to breathe

I need some space, just leave

'cause I'm colder than ever (colder than ever)

I said I'm colder than ever

I'm empty, empty through and through

Someday they'll see, someday I'll be

Unwanting of somewhere to hide

But for now, I'll take shelter

Deep in the back of my mind

Can it wait, can't you wait?

'cause I ain't ready to lay it on the line

I still shake, I still shake

From the chill in my spine

I've got this chill yeah

In the back of my spine

Baby all the time now

Chilling my bones, chilling all alone now

Find a way, find a way, I've found a way

to cope with the everyday now

raise your hands if you understand

Smiling's just a phase yeah

And nothing can phase me

Unlikely, we have some movement here due to the doomer meme being somewhat popular but this board is destined to become a dead board in a few months anyways. So enjoy it.

Epitaph fits the criteria better, the entire song realistically captures decay and its disparity, the first lineup of the band was the best.

Ahhnold Ascends to the presidency under the pragmatic sanction of 2024 which allows him to rule through his wife Maria, despite not being a natural-born US citizen. Proceeds to use a mercenary force of Austrian nudist bodybuilders to quell the Detroit insurrection of 2025, triggering a crisis of legitimacy with highly racialized overtones (who knew that bodybuilders all had grandparents in the SS?).

The swelling of people dispelling our country.

The bullets are flying and bodies are dropping.

Depleting resources accepting the calling.

Compounding the forces and fueling falling.

Calling simple… math.

Animal survival instinct engaged.

Plug in the numbers of simple math.

Continued depleted resources.

A human population explosion.

A world saturated with greed.

And crime crumpled social order.

Fall of man, impending doom.

Passing the ashes to our tomb.

Because post-rock is dead. It was killed by daypeople and niggers from south america. I used to be heavy in post-rock and the communities online was basically essential "NPCs think they are not NPCs" circlejerk. Artists had no chance to bring something new into the genre because retards were too elitist, replaying 3rd wave post-shit over and over. Every band started sound like Mono or God is an Astronaut (or whatever the hell the name of that band was), so the genre died and GY!BE went back into /mu/'s obscurity, which is a good thing.

What do you dislike about GY!BE.

GY!BE is good, I just hate the fans and 3rd wave post-rock. But even GY!BE started to be boring. I thought Asunder is meh but listenable with few enjoyable moments but I totally gave up when I heard Luciferian Towers. I think even GY!BE lives from amazing material they released in past even though they can afford not giving any fuck and bring changes to their music. So I think I have more problem with the genre, it's virtually dead just because fans don't like changes to basic post-rock formula composition/sound. Also the sound of all bands is the same nowadays. It has no soul, no atmosphere. It has crescendos but it won't make you feel anything. When you compare today's releases with early GY!BE, it has no atmosphere, nothing. Post-rock become with 3rd wave genre of middle aged dads and moms, creating bands without a need for a singer, talking online how deep they are, it's nothing more than tumblr wisdom quote picture (with photo of universe as background) of music. Sorry I'm dissing your favorite music, I was just heavily into post-rock and I lost every bit of interest in it because of people and bands too scared to change because fans wouldn't like it. Fly Pan Am, Do Make Say Think, Silver Mt. Zion, all great stuff, I just can't stand all those bands copying each other's style while ripping off GY!BE at the same time. Also I hate how not creative their names are, you can see it's band of NPC: We Lost The Sea, This Patch Of Sky, If These Trees Could Talk…. literally tumblr quote genre.
