What instruments do you doomers play, if any? I imagine some of you play an old beat-up acoustic guitar. I personally mostly play my 5-string bass to get comfy after a nightwalk or a long day.

Please drop images of your instruments if you have any, I would appreciate it.

Perhaps, but as far as I understand that one is mostly about listening to music.

None. I have 2 guitars though. Some years ago i tried to learn to play music and most of the basic chords i know i learnt during that time. It was really calming down and i remember liking it. Now everything sucks way too much.

Former drummer, current producer these days. Nothing is more satisfying than finally finishing a song that you've worked on for hours and hours.

I've mostly been playing bass for about 8 years, though I'm no expert on it. My set right now is pretty simple: Ibanez SR250 or a beaten up BC Rich -→ Boss DS-1 or ODB-3 -→Crate Practice Amp into a Fender bass amp. I'm not a prog guy or one of those jazzy, technical metal guys so I don't really need to utilize much special equipment, though my knowledge on theory could be a bit better rounded as could my technique

Guitar/bass. Started on piano. Still can't read sheet music. Been playing music for ~25 years. It's one of my least destructive outlets. Although, I keep destroying my guitars. It's a love hate relationship. I play anything from K-pop (wife) to GG Allin. I find that bass is more fun, and is more adaptable, for me anyway.

programmers and music producers are essentially keeping the brand alive. What the two are doing is mix of both. There is nothing more Mac-ier than algorithmic composition.

I don't. I'm a Synthwave producer, so I don't really need real instruments added unless I want them. I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to collab though.

I had a 5-string bass but i was too poor(and i'm still fairly poor even now) and i sold it. Maybe i will buy it again when will have the money.

I love this instrument, it's like my life, most people don't even notice it.

Pic related i had this one.

What a shame man, really nice bass too. I have faith that you will find a new 5-string bass again. My friend has a Fender jazz bass, really great quality. Wonderful piece of equipment, and so comfortable to play. What amplifier did you play your bass through?

I really like analog synthesizers, but so far the only one I've managed to acquire is a cheap-sounding digital modeling synth.

Do they really sound all that much better than VSTs? Not trying to dispute you but genuinely curious.

It's hard to tell for me because I've been playing with both here and there. Some people would swear to god there is huge difference, some people wouldn't. It's like those people who talk about valve vs. solid-state guitar amps. There is some difference for sure but analog synth has usually as bonus more options to modulate sound. Try VCV Rack, it's great tool but I'm not sure if I wouldn't rather buy some small cheap Moog. VSTs usually sound a bit too much flat. This applies to any other synths. I have few TB-303 VSTs and I couldn't make them sound totally like the real hardware. They will do the job but it won't be same as the real thing. + sequencing VSTs is usually pain in the ass

I have one stratocaster which served me more than well for any genre. It's in corner now for long time catching dust. I'm afraid even though I don't make music anymore, I won't be able to sell it, I just like to have it, it's just mine.

Guitar and bass, I've written a few riffs and licks but just play other songs for my own enjoyment. I have other guitars but the I use the Yamaha the most except it's missing the A string.

VCV Rack is BLOAT. I can see how people enjoy it though. That shit takes up too much of my computer's resources tho. So I don't really use it.

It really is a eurorack substitute/trainer more than anything else. If you are using it as conventional instrument, then it is very much a bloat. It ran fine on my 4 year old computer, though. The software is still fairly new, so I'm sure it will be more optimized as time goes on.

Apparently 1.0 is going to tackle performance issues and allow the mapping of each knob to a midi CC parameter. Combine this with something like a BCR-2000 and you can get pretty close to a real modular experience.

There are exceptions, but generally speaking, real analog sounds more organic and alive than VSTs, due to the inherent imprecision and unpredictability of analog circuitry which creates an element of non-uniformity like what a "real" instrument would have. There's also the point of being able to physically interact with the instrument and having most or all parameters immediately accessible rather than clicking and dragging knobs and sliders on a computer screen.
