The quests section is a massive pain in the ass. Spells go from "Not enough points to use anything you want" to "So many points you don't know what to do with them" the moment you finish your intermediate quest. Allies in general are just silly because there are so many of them yet they mostly boil down to "This one costs the most so it's the best" and maybe some rudimentary checking to make sure they're not a trash/redundant build.

I was scrolling down the quests list just skimming the enemy types to see which ones were the designated "woah so powerful magic on this one guys" enemies because everything else is some variant of swarming enemy. I guess the idea is to invest in some AoE magic but fuck that; I already picked my spells and I can't be bothered to go pick another dozen.

Tried giving it another shot. Couldn't stomach trying to pick my spells out again. Gave up completely when I was trying to deal with the absurd number of companions that all feel like the same character in some sort of cosplay-roleplay.

The problem I have – not saying that anyone else has a problem with this – is that you're given so many points you're drowning in them, but all of the spells are so plainly specific that there's no fun in imagining what you can do with them.

Tier 1: Throw a fireball.

Tier 2: Throw a fireball fire disc.

Tier 3: Throw a fireball fire disc bigger fireball.

Like, come on. And the fact that every spell that sounds marginally useful is locked behind two or three other spells that are redundant at best and useless at worst doesn't help it. In the early game you see cool shit like being able to summon leafmetal sword sisters to fight alongside you and that's fucking cool, but then you realize that in order to use it you need to put three points into something you don't want at all. It's a bit hypocritical for me to complain I'm given too many points and then complain that certain options cost too much, but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that a CYOA shouldn't make the player have to compromise and say to themself, "Well I don't really want this at all but I guess I have to."

It's not adventurous at all. It feels more like a corporate survey where every question sounds like the same thing they said before and I'm supposed to decide between whether I agree or whether I strongly agree.

Here's how I would do it:

Instead of giving the player something like 30 points and 170 options, tell them to pick two mage schools to specialize in, and then make the rewards for the Intermediate and Heroic quests be "pick another school to specialize in".

For the the companions it's a bit harder because so many of them are just "low cost, useless" or "high cost, high benefit", and more than half of the companions list is made completely obsolete by the end of the first beginner quest. Give the player like, 8 coins in the beginning, and then maybe 8 more as a reward for the Expert quest. Gives the player a choice in the beginning of having a weak but reliable party, a character they liked that they personally buffed up, or a strong character they can synergize with personally. Then by the time the Expert one comes around and they've given their build some thought now that they have a vague idea of what their character actually does, they can play around with their points once again to decide on some stuff.

Maybe give the player more silver coins for the first page, because that one's the most fun if you ask me.

Done complaining now. I only complain like this because I see lots of potential to have fun, and I wanna wring it out.

Actually, one last thing:

The quests section as a whole strikes me as lazy. "Here are some more points. Fetch."

Instead of just dumping points onto the player, this would be the perfect opportunity to let them diversify even further. Offer up more and more unique rewards. A legendary weapon, or a tool, or even a unique spell. Lock telekinesis behind Master level quests and give the player a reason to do them. As of right now it's all points and mounts until the very end, and by then it's the end. Let the player take as many quests as they think they can handle and let them take the rewards they want. Instead of making it a well for free points, make it more like a drawback-reward system. Does the player want to overwork their character for high gains, or do they want to take it easy and just grab the things they really want? Leave it up to the player, but give them something worth working towards, too. Telling the player to go back and just pick more stuff from the sections they already finished isn't much of an incentive for them to keep going.

Crossbows go really well with Vorpal which I'll get later, staff is pretty much required to cast spells. Mace because of the remaining points I guess, didn't matter much.

Vorpal is way too good with a ranged weapon. Dark Shards is good enough for a point, illusion because I need all I can get to avoid getting hit.

Main power comes here. I've got like 2-3 spell cast time modifiers in there, plus Haste which I'll get afterwards from the time tree, I can probably cast those overloads in an instant now. Void spells help me keep my mana up

Mobility, nothing else. I can fly around the battlefield by propelling myself using air.

Mace 4 hybrided with Wand 4, the mace is flanged and bladed with "hooks" pointing up, also hs spikes everywhere but the handle so no one can grab it,echanted to facilitate lighting, with protection for the hand in the handle, and big spikes in the end so I can stab people. I assume all this cost additional 1.

Targe 4 hybrided with Shield Cataclyst 4. My last 3 points go for a short sword.
