These 'secrets' are mostly on the level of "likes steak" and "doesn't know how to use computers".

The Control option is deliberately nerfed to the stage hypnotist level (and is barely useful in any other capacity).

Yes. I've been waiting to do another planeswalker CYOA.

Gonna play the shit out of this one when I have time.

 No.16226

File: 12869392cd437e0⋯.png (309.15 KB,285x804,95:268,ClipboardImage.png)

Origin:

>Arcana

Magical shit is always rockin'. I've played enough CYOAs and lost myself in enough fantasies that I've probably accumulated some amount of magical bullshit. That's my excuse.

Requirement:

>Academic

Wandering is easy but aimless and also takes way too long. Adventuring is fun but difficult and without a guaranteed return on investment. Prodigal is even worse. Academic requirements are easy, plentiful, and come naturally. They also provide a distinct practical advantage: I can learn and master magic systems or regional martial arts that could come in useful in other worlds. If worse comes to worse, history is a safe bet.

Planeswalking options:

>Acceptable taste

>Advancement level

Free with my Academic requirement. They make it easier to find verses which better suit my needs, which is nice.

>Magical

>Aptitude +1

The Prodigal options. Magical ensures that every verse I visit has its own magic system in place. This gives me more avenues of study for my academic requirements, and also synergizes well with the "mathemagician build" I plan on going for. Aptitude synergizes with Magical even more, to ensure I can make the most out of the magic systems that I've guaranteed will be in place, after I've studied and practiced them (which I would be doing to fulfill my academic requirements anyways).

Death:

>Limit +0

I'm playing with five lives at the cost of zero points, basically. I believe that if I'm dying that many times in what should be the pursuit of knowledge, something is either very wrong with me or very wrong with the plane I'm in. If that's the case, getting kicked out seems like the best bet. Extra lives and a safety net would just be pointless.

Personal options:

>Magical stores +2

>Mathemagics

>Memory

Of great importance to my mathemagician build. Mathemagics puts me on the path to better understanding magic, and Memory ensures that I can instantly pull from the different magical systems and runic combinations I've studied along the way.

Magical stores serve multiple purposes. Having a large mana pool to pull from that regenerates quickly and cannot be drained aids in any combat I might experience, but it also makes it easier to perform my own magical experimentation while studying since I'll be able to make more costly mistakes in managing my mana efficiency without having to wait as long to try again. It's also just a smart idea to come packed with mana when magic is what your entire build is revolving around.

>Ontological inertia

Mental illness is a bitch and studying ten subjects is a pittance to avoid suffering from it for millenia.

Planar magic:

>Planar runes

The core of my build. Magic stemming from mathematical theory. I have the magical stores to practice this kind of magic at will and I have the mathemagics ability to master them.

>Summon weapon

It's important to have a contingency plan.

Arcanic options:

>Advanced runes

A no-brainer. This takes the core of my build and amplifies it tenfold. Even my guide on the page says so.

Academic options:

>Focus

Perfect for magic, perfect for academia. No-brainer.

>Parallel thought

Seems complicated and I'm not even certain I fully understand what I'm signing up for with this one, but I imagine it would come in very useful regarding any sort of complicated magic or even just studying a subject while doing something else at the same time.

>Burnout prevention

Studying an additional ten subjects is, once again, a pittance to avoid the burnout from studying a hundred.

Ten points left:

Now I've got everything I've personally deemed absolutely necessary, and I have ten points left over but several options that seem appealing.

<Read book

Reading books nigh-instantaneously. Very useful for studying subjects quickly, but time isn't exactly of the essence. I have plenty of time, so this is out.

<Draw power

Attracting magical energy towards myself. Synergizes very well with my mathemagician build, but I have enough magical stores that this might be redundant.

<Summon food, Heal

Ways to ensure I don't starve to dead or die from something I can't fix with first aid alone, but not very useful beyond that. Again, I'd rather just not find myself in those types of situations in the first place.

<Any planar element

More magic, but I don't know how useful any of it would be compared to the runes.

Really, they all seem like things I could probably find my own way of emulating with the runes I have at my disposal. If that's the case, then I'm going to go with something unusual.

>Catalog check

>Processing power

These two come from the Academic options, and neither seem particularly useful at a glance. Catalog Check allows me to know what kinds of subjects a given world could teach me, and Processing Power helps me analyze useless data. The reason these two come in handy for me though, is that they help to prevent me from overlooking small things that I might have missed while focusing on my main goals. Noticing the small details patches up an important psychological blind spot. If the devil is in the details, I probably won't be falling for it. Might also help me troubleshoot minute errors in my mathemagics. Don't want to pass over a misplaced decimal while assembling combat runes on the fly.

Connections:

>Germor Pleyrtion

Has a demiplane and comes as a package deal. I'll scratch their backs if they scratch mine. Justyna's part of the group and is also an Academic so we could form a small study group before, during, or after the Adventurer conflict to study the same subject. The reason I took Germor over the other two is mostly just because he's the leader of the bunch and the one I'd choose to get stuck with if the group becomes separated for whatever reason.

>Fetrain Tal'dor

Magic otaku that needs help with computers. I'm not an expert on computers but I know how to build one, and if I give myself a few years to study once I have my planeswalker powers, I can master the subject and maybe help tutor him. In return, maybe he can give my own magical studies a jump start with his own knowledge. Then maybe we can collaborate on something crazy.

>Neira of Andelan

This one's more for practicality than anything. I don't have an actual way to heal myself. I didn't take any healing abilities aside from maybe finding the right rune combinations, and none of my companions seem to know much beyond first aid either. Neira knows healing, and she can also craft potions. If I can help her get the materials she needs, I might be able to act as a middleman and keep Germor's demiplane stocked up with elixirs.

<Additional plans

If we can get Trevor of the Falls in on the Pleyrtion Gang, I'm sure we'd be able to help his demiplane cafe keep topped up with Neira's potions and maybe a few of Fetrain's gizmos.

Mentors:

>Carl Gauss

Math. No-brainer.

>Notola Actogla

Magic. No-brainer. Also comes highly recommended and I have no reason to doubt that recommendation.

And now that I have become the ultimate mathemagician, I'm going to leave you to solve for the variable of deez nuts. Get fucked, plebs. The first discipline I'm going to master is the science of fucking your waifu.

>Literally No idea

None of the other options make sense. This is a CYOA. It's supposed to be me, and I'm not a scientist, or any of those other things.

>Prodigal

With all the other options, you are stuck with whatever universe you randomly travel to for however long it takes to do your thing. Prodigal is absolutely essential if you want something specific, because it gives you the power to channel surf universes until you find the right one.

<Global Options

>Magical

Free. Not entirely sure it's a completely good thing unless I can turn it off though. Tech stuff is also important.

>Shadow Generation+

This gets around a LOT of different restrictions. Shadows are always "new" universes. If I spend my limit, I can planeswalk to a shadow of the same universe. I can even pick a shadow with a clone of myself (that one might not work but it's a possible), or one where a copy of myself just died, allowing me to either double up or at least retrieve alternate-me's equipment. New universes are instant as prodigal, so I don't need planeskipping to use shadows to "backtrack" without cooldown. Then to top it all off I get time-travel like abilities with this.

<Death

>0 limit

This ends up getting dumped into 10 more bonus points. With the shadow generation+ I don't have to worry about it, at least not from my perspective. Sure if I make friends on a plane then die, I'm gone forever from their point of view, but from mine I just walk to a new plane with exact copies of them.

<Personal

>Memory

Very good for acquiring power quickly, especially magic

>Self Improvement upgrade

Amazingly useful for accumulating mutations and gagetry. The basic level is required if I want to be the girl, but both levels are insane.

<Planar Magic

>Soulbind Item

I kind of hate that I need this, but I need this.

>Planar Runes

Most versatile.

>Nature (no spell)

Mutate will eventually be a huge power source if I can't find equivalent versal magic, because I can transfer it via self improvement. Nature also synergizes well with Specificity. There are so many different sub-categories.

>Dimension (no spell)

One of the most utilitarian magic schools available. Not sure it has much synergy with specificity, but it will definitely be useful.

>Advanced Runes

More versatile. This won't kick in until after 5 years with specialist options.

>Specificity

By the time this kicks in I should have learned a few basic spells from the schools I have, maybe even learned a new school or two on my own if that's possible.

>More Power

This comes immediately. Really I'd prefer the newbie treatment to start. I want to spend a long time getting used to things and developing my skills before I go heavy on the actual prodigal requirement.

<Prodigal Options

>Low Planeswalking: Style Choice, Catalog Check

Catalog check is a must-have for the channel surfing strategy. Style choice may or may not be helpful in finding types of societies, but custom conflict is absolutely useless and something to avoid having at all. I don't WANT to guarantee conflict, I'd rather avoid it.

>High Personal: Focus, Asceticism

Massive bonus to learning ability

>High Planar Magic: Read Book, Control

Pretty much just taking this for Read Book

>Extra Bonus points +20

Self explanatory

>Lesser Options

I wanted to avoid custom conflict, the extra points help a little.

>Specialist Options

The only way that makes sense to gain Arcane

<Connections

>Fetrain Tal'Dor

Artificer, good for making shit I can attach to myself with self-improvement

>Trevor of the Falls

Pocket plane

>Siph Wrightson

Mass transit, including stuff. Would be even better if I could afford Companions, because I take just her and get her entire ship and everyone I can load into it for free. Maybe next build revision, or maybe I can learn the skill myself.

>Etrip Bookeye

She gives access to information that would normally be forbidden, in exchange for completing her tasks which are more or less optional, not to mention extremely easy with Shadow Generation+. I needed a mentor that would let me mostly do my own thing for an extended period, but would still have some possibility of actually helping me when the time comes.

Mostly just going to focus on getting the perfect body/mods first, then start learning versal or mastering planar magics. It'll be a long time before I'm ready to challenge the universe to make progress towards the Prodigal goal, but even if I never do I'm still doing pretty well for myself.

And just for funsies, in case anyone wants to take me along as their own connection, here's what you get.

Summary:

>Yo,

> I'm an Academic mathemagician. I've got runes, runes, and more runes, and I put them together to create spells. No idea how it works and that's not what I'm trying to find out. I'm just happy enough putting two and two together to make four suns worth of energy.

> Not to imply that I'm trying to rush through things, but I'm putting all of my focus into my academic requirements. Limited power is a raw deal. I did my best to game the system and grab as much power as I could but I'm not happy with the chump change. What I'm trying to say is that I want connections that will help me learn. I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine but don't pick me if you don't have anything to offer.

> If you want something, I'm your man. Might take me a year or two to figure out how to put the runes together in a way that'll get you what you want, but it's better late than never.

Secrets:

> Does not get along well with others. Will put up a polite and friendly front, but truly prefers being without the company of other people. Especially other planeswalkers.

> Regrets the choices of powers he made. Wants to run free and enjoy the adventure inherent in exploring new worlds. Does not care much for the magic he's been able to piece together.

> Hates studying and only chose the academic path out of a desire to pay off his requirements and quickly as possible in order to unlock his full suite of planeswalker powers.

> Is looking for a specific universe but refuses to tell anyone which one, even if they could help him find it, out of some sense of shame.

> Degenerate.

Sounds like you looked at my build and said "damn that looks like so much more fun, I wish I'd done that instead", what with the freely exploring different/specific universes and general degeneracy.

Not really. Right from the get-go I was playing this with the destination in mind moreso than the journey. I think anyone who takes Prodigal has to be short-sighted.

>I think anyone who takes Prodigal has to be short-sighted.

I more think anyone who DOESN'T take it is just greedy. You get plenty from the start, and you can take just about anything else for yourself if you find the right universe. You don't really know what they are offering, OR what they will require in exchange once you finally get done. I doubt you'll have any real freedom under their thumb.

 No.16251

I went prodigal but only with the intention of lasting for 5 years cashing in on advanced options from multiple paths and then then immediately escaping to the academic track. Tbh if possible I'd like to load up on as many requirement points as possible. Once I go academic if they let me I'll pick up all the extra requirement cost options and I'll probably sign up for connections with basically everyone save for maybe a few like that annoying Cett dude. Get my self up to round 300 requirement points. As an academic it's not like I'd actually be doing anything different once I actually do finish off my requirements. So I'm just in it to grab up as many benefits as possible before I graduate.
